Listening to the first Irvine 2003 show today. Pretty solid.
I know you think mixes should be over only a small set of shows (I can understand why) but I may need your help making a 2003 one for the ENTIRE two legs (it's just a "starter") like I/we did for 2000. The goal would be to have most of the 1990's tunes in there, some stuff from Binaural, some essential covers and bsides from the tour, and, obviously, every track from Riot Act (plus Down). Also, would want to use as many shows as possible to really get a feel of how vast the tour was. Think you're up for making the list? That's A LOT of shows to choose from!
Well....that wont be too hard...we can just take a handful of gigs from April, early May to start...Raleigh,Charlotte,Champaign,Pitt,Philly,Nassau,Buffalo over State PA.....thats 7 gigs..Atlanta and St Louis as well maybe..so thats 9.....I will put starter list together later on today.....no more than 15 tunes...then look at the June gigs....
I'd say there's about 25 or so "Ed-Man" gigs from 2003. If I do my "usual" four-CD compilation, that's about 70 songs. This means any given gig should have only 2 or 3 songs from it.
Ah..ok..you want the MONSTER MIX then..lol...but,why not a spring April/May 2 cd mix,...then a June/July 2 cd mix ?....its easier that way..but if you want the whole shebang mix.....than thats cool...lol
What you are saying makes sense - although the June/July has a few more shows and therefore would/should get a few more songs than the Spring shows. I was going to do a compilation for EACH leg comprised of either three or four discs but it just seems to be too much at once. However, if it's easier do a "MONSTER" mix for both of the two legs, I can then decide between the two versions you list - or just make two mixes.
Listened to San Diego 2003 last night. Solid (a bit short, however) gig although I'm not too sure if Better Man works that well as an opener. That said, they really did come out strong that June.
Ed, I intended to listen to Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Dallas next and then jump a bunch of shows - right to Chicago. Am I missing anything "vital" here? You mentioned some of those shows (e.g., Fargo) were highly-touted by PJ fans but you felt they were a bit overrated (?).
Bonner Springs,Council Bluffs and Fargo are very popular in the PJ community..and if I didnt mention those, there would be a bounty on me...lol....they are good gigs, and I would agree require at least a listen.
They are solid, but yes I think there are better shows...Chicago and East Troy to start with, are 2 of the best gigs that summer IMO..Noblesville,Columbus.and the 2 from Detroit (plus the 2 from Canada,Toronto and Montreal ) are great, and I feel are better shows than the Big 3...
Bonner Springs starts off with an amazing version of Release, with lighting all around..a massive storm was moving in,and pored the entire gig.....and the band cut the gig short...but it has a bit of a cult status...so at least listen to that one,and tell me what you think....
