It was pretty damn good. Obviously they didn't sound exactly like U2, (it wasn't a tribute band) but on some of the songs they seriously nailed the album versions. Still Haven't Found sounded awesome, it sounded a LOT like the album. I'm pretty sure they performed it in the same key as the album too, and while the singer couldn't hit ALL of the high nuances Bono does, he still nailed most and sounded awesome. Bullet The Blue Sky was just...wow. Maybe it was becuase I've never had the pleasure of hearing it performed live by U2 (yet!), but the song was almost scary. They really captured the darkness of that song, as well as Exit and Mothers.

All in all it was cool to hear some of those songs live, and even cooler to hear The Joshua Tree performed front to back. Obviously it wasn't any comparison to U2 themselves, but I'll never hear them do that type of performance or perform some of those songs either. Cool show!

That sounds very nice How's your music going Alex?
  2. Sounds very cool, Alex, I would love to see even a tribute band play any U2 album all the way through. Hopefully it won't be the only way a U2 album will ever be done all the way through though...let's have some hope for a future tour

What kind of venue was the show in?
  3. Thanks guys!

Olof, music is going pretty well at the moment. My friend and I from my previous band are still planning on recording an album this summer, and I've just started to get the gear together that'll let us do it! Picked up the vocal mic yesterday as well as ordered the interface to record through. I'm still trying to sell my Les Paul to help fund the electric drum kit though! And then after that it'll be the bass/amp I have to buy (an expensive venture! luckily I'll be working full time starting May, so it shouldn't take too long to get everything). The music itself is going pretty well too. We're writing bits here and there, using material from the band, and we're starting to get a sort of universal theme for the album too. We're even talking about using different segues as well as recurring musical themes throughout the album (think The Wall by Floyd). It's going to be awesome! I can't wait to get started on it.

Matt, I know what you mean. That's one thing I love about Pink Floyd, their earlier shows were always to play the album being toured front to back, and then a second set of fan favourites/hits afterwards. Super cool. It's what I wanted for the new Coldplay album, but they didn't do it. I'd love to see U2 perform an album front to back one day, it'd be even cooler if it was some type of concept album. And the show was in a smaller theatre, a really nice place with great sound. It's almost like a movie theatre with graduated seating (but not nearly as graduated) with a balcony and stuff. Great place for performances (saw a jazz group once there too).
  4. Which vocal mic did you buy?

Also, which program do you intend to record with? I'm a Logic user myself

That one! A friend of mine who's written/produced a few albums (which have actually gotten semi-popular in Japan believe it or not...) has used that one and it's sounded great, and it's a pretty good price (in comparison to some of the ones that I've considered)

And I think I'm going to record with Mixcraft 5. I actually really like it, it's super simple and works well for me! That being said I haven't tried Logic myself, so maybe I should give it a spin.
  6. Hey Bono! Dye your hair blonde!

It looks like a nice one. I've got an SE X1 condenser microphone. The original price was something like 4000 SEK... but it's gone down to 1000 SEK, so yours is a little bit more expensive. I like it a lot. Sometimes I wish I had a dynamic microphone as well though. Having a condenser can get REALLY annoying when there's someone else in the building making sounds, because they're so very sensitive. Be prepared to have some issues with unwanted sound on your recordings. I think I may get a Shure SM58 some time.

If you have an Apple computer... Logic is VERY nice I think.

    I actually don't have an apple I have a windows-based computer.

I have a shure SM57 too, it's what I usually record my guitar amp with and stuff. I think the AT2020 will work well enough, we plan on recording in my basement when no one else is around, so hopefully it'll be fine. But you're right, with everything comes a few problems that always need work arounds! We're ready for anything though!

Then I hope your computer is reliable. You don't want computer problems to ruin your recordings. A crash would be catastrophic.

The basement should be good! You've gotta watch yourselves too. Very small movements sometimes gets picked up. And if you wanna record vocals as the same time as you're playing guitar or something... you're totally screwed with a condenser That's another reason why I want a dynamic mic as well.

Good luck with the album, it's very hard to actually get something together. I've tried. I imagine it's a big help to have someone there to kick your ass though.
  10. Can you come over and fix mine? Or are you only married to your own? lol
  11. As if Apple computers are honestly more reliable than a Windows system
