1. Yesterday was 20th anniversary since the 4-year occupation of Sarajevo began. All media here is covering it, and most of them mention U2, Miss Sarajevo, Bill Carter and Koševo concert. It's very touching.

Anyway, this is the how the 'beauty queen' that Bono sings about looks today:

  2. Wow, she's looking great!
Miss Sarajevo and the story behind it are one of the main reasons I love U2.
    "Is there a time...?"
  3. Sarajevo today;

One chair for every dead in occupation.
  4. I just saw a short report about today's anniversary on tv. Seeing those red chairs, so many of them, gave me the shivers. Still incredible even after so many years.

a friend of mine, in his early 50s, is from Bosnia. He lived to bear the full impact of that war, losing too many of his family members. Sometimes, very rarely, when we talk he shares a story or two of what happened back then. It comes out in small pieces and I never push him to tell more once he stops - but you can feel that everything he saw and experienced and suffered back then is as much alive within him as if it happened yesterday. Very moving.

And The Beauty Queen of back then looks still so beautiful today, wow. Is she an actress? I'm afraid I know so very little about her, shame on me.
  5. I was too young by then (only 2-6 years old) but I still can remember some of the important facts of the war, and some TV images are burned into my memory.

It's touching to see the celebrations, the chairs, the flowers...
  6. Incredible, 20 years already. Great tribute with the chairs, impresses.
  7. How many chairs.
I finished to read Bill Carter's book two weeks ago, and I have to say it impressed me very much. So many details, fellings he put into this, trying to bring all that life experience from the inside of besieged Sarajevo to the readers. He was the person the whole thing with all those satellite link-ups from Bosnia with ZooTV concerts started from.

I got huge respect for this person, as well as for all people who were surviving during the war, who kept their pride and didn't give up. Viva Sarajevo, viva!

    ------------
I wonder, are those twins on the far left on the photo UNIS towers I was reading about.....they're still there???
  8. Nice to hear you took my advice to read that book, it really paints an amazing picture of Sarajevo under siege. It's breathtaking to read.
  9. If there's gonna be 1st live concert on u2start in near future, this one could be great.
  10. Sarajevo is my favorite U2 bootleg.

  11. Yeah, mine too. So full of emotions. Few of my friends were at that concert, I always like to hear stories about it.
