In general I happen to like IEM recordings. Although you sometimes miss the crowd interaction/ participation, an IEM most of the times feels kinda “intimate” : you are very close to the vocals, the sighs, the instruments and the occasional failure. This concert is special for Bono is referring several times to the Edge being ‘Welsh’ (“Edges’ family is in the audience tonight, there are about 25.000 of them….”) and Bono tries to make his voice work, he sometimes pushes it fully (sometimes….) and at other times takes it easy (with or without you). Is he counting in Welsh at the start of the second Vertigo?
Performance: 3,5 stars
They are trying to connect and make lots of references to Wales. Bono's voice is not always strong, but he pushes himself in BD (Touch me………) and in sometimes and doesn’t lose grip that easily. It’s energetic, there are some very nice snippets. There is a ‘happy birthday’ for “our lady from Birma” and RTSS is powerful, with a large snippet of Walk on. One is particully nice.
Audience: no rating
That is the thing about IEM: you cannot really hear the audience……. But there is some nice singing in ISHFWILF……. Welsh crowds in general are pretty cool though…. .
Sound: 4 stars
As I said, I really like IEM's, they make a nice alternative to the sometimes very noisy crow recordings and you can concentrate really well on the voice and instruments. It’s also fun to hear the metronome and the clicks aren’t that annoying on this boot….
Overall 3.5 stars
