  2. Mr_Trek i just think they need to make the music harder,heavier guitars and less of the ambient stuff,not that im against that i just think its the way for them to go.
    Like RattleAndHum88 says a Passengers2 would be interesting but id like that as a fan club release or something.

    I don't know. If heavy U2 sounds like Breathe or more of How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb count me out, they've been there and done that for the past 10 years. I think it'd be interesting to see U2 do something completely new but with keeping in mind newer sounds like Foster The People and Mother Mother and bands like that. Could be a great combination. U2 + Electronic dance rock could be pretty cool.
  4. If I was making albums I'd be trying hard to get it done as soon as possible but with family requirements it not as easy, but at least we get little up to dates of all sorts of things .And Im not making albums, although I kind of wish I was.
  5. Something else they should try to keep in mind: If they are working hard to be relevant and current then they should hurry up with what they are working on. You don't want to release something year or two from now that sounds like "last year's music" you know?

    When i talked heavy i was thinking more Zoo Station,The Fly,UTEOTW kinda stuff,for instance Elevation on the 2001 Tour just blew me away man,imo it didnt reach these levels compared to when it was performed on the Vertigo and 360(although it done the job).
    I'm a fan of Breathe (and NLOTH) and it is important for U2 to experiment and go down these avenues,it makes a great journey as fan to follow them,but i just feel its time to go down the route where they open a gig and hardly draw breath for 4 or 5 songs and have the crowd go mental.
  7. At this point, I'm happy with where U2's career has gone. The only letdown for me was the Self-Hype of NLOTH. Hearing Eno or Lanois(can't remember which one) say that MOS was the greatest moment of their entire life in the studio made me laugh out loud. MOS is a nice song, maybe even a great song, but better than all those other songs? I liked NLOTH, but it did not meet the hybe. I know I like it better than October, and maybe a bit better than Boy or Passengers, but it is in the bottom half of my favorite U2 releases.

    I suppose I would love for U2 to have the guts to simply release the best of what they have in the can by Sept 2013. There could be one 75-79 min disc of the best music from all of their "3 album" projects, and then a Deluxe Edition containing 3 discs with The main album, and then 2 discs of songs that did not make the cut, and maybe a few demos thrown in.

    I think the "main" disc would be great if it had all the elements of what U2 has been working on: Ambient songs, Rock, Dance/Club, and the back to basics sounds of ATYCLB and Bomb. I like albums that have different sounds all over them. I think the days of having all the songs sound from the same vibe are over. I like having a few songs with stark differences from the other songs. I think it is very important for them to take their time, but not overthink it either. If they really think they can have a hit at this state in their career, have them look at the charts for anybody over 35. Not that many. If they are not overjoyed by June 2013, I still think they should just put the 3 discs out as is, and at least play 5 songs for the entire tour, and not make it too much of a hits show like 360 became.

    It probably wouldn't hurt for the bonus discs to have the demo original of Mercy in better sound quality, along with North Star, and Every Breaking Wave. (They can keep Glatsonbury, though.)

    Maybe they could have Anton Corbijn make a movie about some
    guy riding a bicycle around in circles while listening to the album. That would be the Super Uber Doooper Fish Out of the Water Deluxe version.

    (Ok, that last part was a joke.) So I answered the actual topic question by saying it would be finished by June 2013, mixed by Aug 2013, and released in Sept 2013. The tour would start in October and would be a basic no frills stage that could easily go from Arena to Stadium.

I think it was Chris Martin who said to Bono (read this back in 2010 when U2 were already talking about 3-4 albums) "Here's my advice, take your best 10-12 songs from each of those albums, and put them together on ONE album", to which Bono replied something along the lines of "nah". Gotta be honest here, as much as I hate putting "Coldplay" and "U2" in the same sentance, Chris Martin was bang on with that advice.
  9. I think that Bono understands that an actual album, cohesive and with a certain flow, cannot be a random selection of (great) songs from different sessions. R&H already crosses that line (which I don't mind in that particular case, so this is not aimed at your nickname at all).

    R&H worked, because it was part of their evolution as a band during the JT tour and part of making a movie about themselves: it's a musical journey. But that's a once in a lifetime thingy.

    So I certainly don't expect them to mix together NLOTH leftovers, with the Rubin sessions, some Red One or Will.I.Am stuff and pretend it's an album. I would not have minded, had they released these leftovers as part of a 360/spiderman/glasto-AB-triple DVD, but they didn't so that ship has sailed.

    Ok, so if your choice was 12 really good to great songs that don't seem to be cohesive, or a very cohesive album with 3 really good to great songs, and 9 songs that are barely ok, which would you take?


    If you just take the studio songs, I think Hattle & Rum was very cohesive. I wish it just would've been a studio release, and that there would've been a seperate double live album, as The Joshua Tree never got a real live album, just a few songs on Hattle. I thought With Or Without You was epic there, and should've been on a proper live album, not just in the movie.

  12. I think the CD will be close to elimination by then. I'd love a deluxe treatment for Pop, but I can't imagine the sound quality being any better. If there is a simple format for Audio that sounds as good or better than CD by then, maybe we have a chance, but Pop's seen as a failure to the band, who have made it known that they want a radio hit on the next album. Sure, it would be great to get a Pop reissue, but I think they are done with the remasters. I'd love to get a Super Uber Luber Fish Frying in the Water version of Hattle & Rum, as it is the only release left that really sounds subpar in their catalog.

    I've probably done this post before, but I think there should only be 2 versions of Hattle released:

    Disc 1: Original Album As is Remastered
    Disc 2: Extra Studio Tracks, B Sides, remixes, etc
    Disc 3: Extra Live Tracks
    (The fist 3 discs would be version 1 with a price of 24.99 US)

    Disc 4: Syracuse DVD
    Disc 5: LA DVD
    Disc 6: Denver DVD
    Disc 7: Tempe DVD
    Discs 8-12: Various other live tracks

    The 12 disc version would be $120 US, but maybe $99 the first week as a bonus for U2.com members...perhaps to make up for implying that die hards have to buy Sydney DVD twice, and From The Sky Down twice...

    Of course, this is my usual delusional fantasy.

    I'd also love to have a Super Duper Fish Frying Deluxe Pop, but I'm too tired to figure out what I'd want on it other than the original scrapped version of the Album, demos, DVDs, etc.
