1. They only use fireworks during the first and last songs, so it's not that much of an overkill. I agree the whole pyrotechnics things (including lights, balloons, confetti and the rest of the stuff) might be excesive, just look at the setlist (by the way, the hardest-to-get setlist I've ever seen!!!) where almost every song has a "special effect" attached:

  2. Oh, by the way, my videos from the first part of the show (song times are at the Youtube video page) :

  3. Sounds like a great show
  4. In my honest opinion...

Hurts Like Heaven doesn't need the fireworks, in my place doesn't need the confetti (should be reserved for Lovers In Japan), Don't Let It Break Your Heart doesn't need as many lights (that song uses a Streets level flash in almost every verse), Clocks does not need lasers, and Fix You does not need the pyrotechnics.
  5. Fix You DEFINITELY benefits from and/or needs the fireworks.

    Agree with the rest.
  6. The mellow intro to Yellow left me speechless the other day. It's just a simple piano reinterpretation of the first verses from the song, but it really struck a chord on me
  7. They're doing a live Q&A on Twitter right now
  8. Thanks Matt! Gonna join the party
  9. The vibe I've been getting from the MX tour (and album in a way) is all flash, no substance... it looks like a giant party which is fun, but I would like more variety and more subtle, beautiful moments. Could you imagine a song like Up With the Birds, What If, A Rush of Blood, or Death and All His Friends in the middle of this stadium show? Warning Sign is good but they should play more in that middle section Not a criticism, its still amazing that they are doing a show like this, but it also feels the same to me as the Viva tour, same format, same stage in a way, same idea. Viva 2.0.
  10. In all honesty, I can't imagine a more subtle and intime moment than playing a relaxed, heartbreaking song like Up In Flames. Sure the show has its epilepsy-worthy moments but I think it's pretty balanced between the upbeat and the relaxed songs. Slow songs: Warning Sign, The Scientist, Speed of Sound, Up In Flames, Us Against The World vs. Flash songs: Hurts Like Heaven, God Put A Smile, Viva La Vida, Charlie Brown, Clocks, Every Teardrop... The rest of it (songs like Paradise, Major Minus, Violet Hill, etc) is just "normal" stuff. It's pretty balanced I think. More mellow songs would reaffirm those who critic they excesive "poppyness", and more epileptic songs would excesively turn the stadium into a disco.

PS. Do you consider A Rush Of Blood to be the same kind of song than Up With The Birds or What If? Wow, in my opinion AROB is one of their heaviest songs, both in meaning and sound!

  11. I honestly have not seen Fix You with the fireworks yet.
But I know the way the song runs and I'm not sure that I can see it working. Also, Fix You comes right before Teardrop, which benefits greatly from the fireworks. I just think it's a little overkill to use pyrotechnics for two songs in a row.

I also think they need to add that Speed of Sound snippet leading into Teardrop like they did at some of the summer festivals. Playing it full brings a somewhat rambling feel, but when they play it simply with just the piano and only the first few verses, it sounds so magical.

Also, GA for Coldplay. Is it worth it?

Ahhh, yeah when you organize it like that, I agree for the most part. I guess i just need to see the show because on paper it seems to be all flash at first, even on the coldplay forum 'coldplaying' all i hear are comments about how there's a lot of staging effects. Not that I mind, I love the set for the most part.

LOL Freudian slip I think, I'm 90 percent sure I was listening to A Rush of Blood while typing this. I would love it to come back
