I wouldn't hold your breath as far as set list length is concerned, indoor or outdoor 2.5 hours seems to be the maximum they are willing to do and i don't think Bono's voice would stand the test of three and a half hours on a regular basis. To be fair bruce has built many more breaks into this tour than ever before. As for varying the setlist we'd all like to see that i think, well everyone on here but you can even go back as far as the joshua tree to see how little what would be regarded as well known songs get played. Adam has said they 'didn't have the songs to fill stadiums' on the joshua tree tour and yet 11o'clock, out of control, electric co, two hearts beat, sort of homecoming were rarely played. As someone said in the coldplay thread two hours is the bare minimum you'd expect of a stadium show. Maybe they don't have the faith in their fans attention that Bruce has. Though he's the exception rather than the rule. Elton John varies his set a bit but mccartney hardly at all. Sting who you'd expect to be able to play anything given his constant comments of how he likes 'to be challenged musically' has more or less been playing the same set list for the past seven years. Only from 2000 - 2004 after which he has never returned to the stage did Bowie start throwing curve balls from his jukebox prior to that sets were rigid on each tour.
