  2. Definitely the acoustic version.

    While I enjoy listening to the album version of the song, I honestly believe the song is more powerful when played acoustically. Just by listening to the U22 version, the song clearly displays a sort of elegance in its simplicity. By removing all the excess sounds, it brings the lyrical content into greater focus, making it a more beautiful song.

    I think all of the sound and noise adds to the whole "radio waves" and "lip syncing to talk show hosts" though. The lyrics sort of express this sense of loss in a world of satellites and space and technology, and I think the soaring instrumentation and crazy guitar sounds add to that! Not to mention that simple riff played by Edge in the album version and in the full band version from ZooTV (which was my vote) to me adds so much to the song. It adds a sense of mellowness and it's just so awesome.

    Maybe it's the only U2 song that works better acoustically

  5. I think you're totally right. Many U2 songs work well acoustically, but I don't think there are any other U2 songs that actually feel complete when played acoustically. Good call.

    and I prefer live in full band version like ZOO , the last for me is acoustic ( i´m sorry )

  9. Beautifully done acoustic on the Elevation tour, but honestly nothing will ever top that studio cut for me. One of the rare U2 songs in which that is the case.

    My favorite part about the one on the album is how, at the end of the prechoruses, the flange kicks in on the guitar part. Like when Bono says "And if you shout, I'll only hear you..." the guitar part leading into the chorus gets that tight spacey ring to it. That's always been my favorite little nuance about Stay.
