Bad is a pretty old song, so I'm willing to bet the band would be asking themselves if they can still pull out this old material and get the same response they had before. Remember that this is also the first time U2.com has done something where they've put all these songs head to head and allowed the fans to vote. Until this point, the only real response they would get regarding old material is from the audience at their concerts. Even though 360 was a massive production, the online voting allowed an even greater number of fans to express their opinion.
I see Adam's remarks as one that recognizes that it's not just the hardcore fans that wait in line for days who love Bad. It's the casual fans, the new fans, the old fans - all of them - who love Bad. I actually think they will take this information into consideration when they plan out their next tour; how many old songs to play, which ones to rotate, etc.

THIS. I think with the online voting they probably figured more young people would be in touch with the whole online+community thing than the older fans are (this could be a horrible assumption too) and he was surprised to see that song make it onto the album for that reason. Surprised that young people know and love the song, because it's an older warhorse for sure. One of the few that they actually dropped at one point as a regular. I think I'll still be surprised if it returns as a regular next tour (I'm not even sure I'd want it to) but you never know, after this who knows what songs they'll pull out.
I also think they'll start thinking about bringing back older hits that they thought were forgotten too. I'm sure they were just as surprised to see songs such as One Tree Hill, Zooropa, The Fly, Unforgettable Fire, and Ultraviolet on there as well. Somehow I think next tour they'll be doing the same thing. Digging up older fan favourites to surprise their new fans. Let's cross our fingers that that includes looking at Pop!
