1. U2 and Green Day was a good collaboration, two very different bands colliding and bringing up a unique sound and a nice song. I'm no Green Day fan but I reckon U2 have done far worse things than teaming up with them

IMO,a much better collaboration would have been with PJ,not Greenday.I cant stand them.

The reason Pearl Jam are even at that festival is because Jay-Z curated it and is a big Pearl Jam fan...he picked them to be the only other headliner at the fest. Also, PJ is no stranger to hip hop collaborations...Cypress Hill collab anyone?

They're just having a good time. And who cares if the song is juvenile or not...personally I don't even really think it is, just because he's a rapper and that particular song is pretty cliche in terms of content for a rap song doesn't mean that its a stupid song. The entire basis for the song is racial profiling.

"99 problems, and "a bitch" aint one"....he's actually talking down to the other rap artists who sit there and rap about their bitches and hos, and how they're gonna get laid all night and drink their Bacardi etc....he's saying I've got SO many problems- we ALL do- but "a bitch" aint one. Really think the context of that line needs the quotes...he's not calling women bitches, he's calling out others for doing that while highlighting the real problems.

Im sure you are correct.I had no idea Jay Z was a fan of PJ.Jay Z comes off like a good guy,not some skid rapper like say,Snoop Dog 50 cent,or that white trash pig Eminem.

As far as Jay Z audience, that is a different story,at least from what I have heard.A friend of mine actually went to see Jay Z when he played Yankee Stadium a while back.He said it was a nightmare, and the crowd was filled with punks of all races.
  4. As far as PJ,they should get their asses in the studio, and stop with these silly 2 week mini tours.I mean, whats the point really ?

Like Damon Albarn said, in this months Q when he was asked about Blur, "your not band, if you only get together a couple of times a year, when schedules allow"....or something along those lines.....and I totally agree...
  5. I am by no means a huge rap fan, though I have been listening to some recently. I thought the collaboration was pretty cool. As far as Jay-Z goes, I have to admit The Blueprint is a great album, one of the best from the 2000s, regardless of genre. The Black Album isn't bad either.

    So U2 also isn't a band then?

Remember Eddie has also his US solo tour coming up (after also European dates) and I think these festival commitments were made way in advance, and gives the US crowd some shows after their European tour in 2012. Believe they're also working in a new album, which probably is released earlier then a new U2 album
  7. U2 arent off doing solo projects, and when U2 tour, they do a proper fullon tour.....not some mini 2 week tour and thats a wrap. Also, Bono has never toured solo,or even released a solo album. No comparison .

EV released his solo album last year,so why is he still touring, when he could be with his "band" recording ?
  8. Think they deserve to do solo projects after 20+ years, especially when it brings such beautiful music. They/he also could not tour and stay at home. Glad he didn't because EV solo in Amsterdam was one of the best concert experiences ever, what a talent that man has. Don't understand me wrong, off course I love U2, but saying PJ isn't really a band anymore is a bit harsh, in my opinion off course.

And Bono has no solo shows, true, but don't underestimate the time he has spend on the political path, off course for a good cause, but also very time consuming while he could have been in the studio
  9. I agree about the solo thing. They deserve it,as long it doesnt interfere with the main band.IMO,it does. But as I said,EV toured last year and released his album last year.I attended a show at the Beacon here in NYC,June 2011.It was very good. But,why is he still doing it ?

Id prefer for them (PJ) to put out a record, and do a real tour,as they havent done a full tour since 2006.IMO,a 2 week tour, isnt a tour. And the festival thing is gettin old,as they have been doing this "mini tour/festival" gigs since 2007.

Also,is Matt in PJ or Soundgarden,as you cant be in 2 b ands at one time.
  10. Bono's polictical path has slowed down alot.U2 take years off,do their own thing, which seems to be spending time with their families, not doing solo projects.

U2 then tour for years, after taking years to put out an album. There is no question that U2 are still a band in every sense.Larry isnt off playing drums for another group, nor is Edge doing solo acoustic gigs.

At this point in time,I would prefer for Pearl Jam to do the same as U2.
  11. That I agree with you 100% about Matt, especially when they almost at the same time tour/record. You can not be part of a creative process with one, when you also have work to do for or even be on the road wit the other.

Let's see if the rumours of a new album are true, but likely it will be followed only by a US tour. In Amsterdam he mentioned something about not sure when we would see them again, could be a while. So we already started saving for if there will be a show in Seattle
  12. It's certainly a "tricky" thing having Matt in both bands but these guys have been in the business for nearly a quarter of a century so, in my opinion, if that's how they want to do things, so be it. That said, PJ are indeed due for a new album. However, if it's gonna be a bunch of songs like "Ole," no thank you.
