1. Ya idk how you can have a Muse gig without Plug in Baby. Just seems so wrong
  2. Yeah I'm going to throw this out there.

Muse's only true "show closer" is Knights.
    Done deal.
No other song in their repertoire has that feeling of complete closure. Many songs could end their main set, but Knights is the only song I see fit for them to end the night.
  3. We discussed the Knights thingie two years ago... From this post on: http://u2start.com/topic/by-post/378941/

I agree that it's a fantastic closer, and it's actually THE closer for a Muse gig, but Stockholm Syndrome or Plug In Baby have both closed shows in the past, and they're almost as good in terms of epicness and "climax-ness". Anyway, if you're not going to close with Knights, please do choose something that's almost as good as it, but not a cheesy, anti-climax combo like Starlight-Survival... Big big mistake.
  4. Actually, I think they're in a "denial of their past anthems" phase. Rotating SS/NB or not playing Plug In Baby, three of their best live songs, shows that. I don't care much about Hysteria but I acknowledge it's among many fans' favorite, and rotating it with MOTP is a crime as well. I think they're trying to step away from their anthems and say they're a "new" Muse by focusing on their latest work, but this is NOT the way to do it. Play 3 or 4 more songs a night and you can play both roles ¬¬
  5. Have to say I loved the days of Stockholm Syndrome, so I would say there are two 'true' closers, especially considering how epic Knights is when it opens a gig.

I agree with you all with regards to dropping their old songs for newer material. I feel these last two albums are probably their worst (I let Showbiz off for being a solid debut), and using these song to replace the old classics just seems wrong. When Achtung came out, U2 didn't drop WOWY, Pride of Streets did they?

damn it, looks like i might have been right FFS

Did you ever wonder why U2 are the biggest band in the world? (Or was, if you like it that way) The reason lies in the fact that U2 have never released an heavy song like Acrobat as single. The final U2 number one single will be Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own. A ballad.

My point is, these are not world tour gigs. This is 'The 2nd Law Pretour'. You cannot play only three songs of the album you are promoting. Neither can Muse play heavy rock songs. Sixteen song setlist. Seven new album slots. Leaves you with nine slots for the greatest hits.

    Muse in the charts (UK):
    1. Supermassive Black Hole (#4)
    2. Time Is Running Out (#8)
    3. Uprising (#9)
    4. Knights of Cydonia (#10)
    5. Neutron Star Collison (#11)

Stockholm Syndrome isn't one of the greatest hits. It didn't even chart at all. That song simply is not Muse's With or Without You.

I hope you all agree that Supermassive, Time Is Running Out, Uprising and Knights are better choices than Hysteria and Stockholm Syndrome, especially when the goal is selling your album to ordinary listeners. So are Starlight and Resistance, even my mum loves that one. Three slots left.

So wouldn't it be great if Muse played the same setlist every night for the coming weeks? You would love complaining about that, wouldn't you? I think you guys should be happy with the three rotating slots.

Actually, U2 did drop WOWY, Pride and Streets at some point. I'm not talking about a obscure short six song setlist show. I'm talking about a gig every single one of us knows.

  8. Even replacing Survival with a better closer, Starlight feels so awkward near the end of the show...
  9. Solid post Fabian. Well done.
  10. I FEEL sick
