1. Ok, because it's also listed on amazon.com and there it says US and Canada only

  2. I think I read somewhere that if the files were taken from the digital copy of the show that was once sold on the site, that is was okay. However, if it was an audio rip from the CD's, then it's not okay.

Look at me trying rationalize downloading the thing!

Nothing is legal on the Internet Matthew, nothingman.

Just download it, what's the worst at could happen? If you intend to replace with a physical copy later, then there's little guilt.

  4. Boom knocking on his door: "go out and buy the boxset!!! don't rationalize!" hehe
  5. Here's one way of looking at it, with the money you saved from buying shows from this tour, you can buy all the missing items
  6. So wait a minute...were you exaggerating Tim or are the items for download at places like this haven and pearljambootlegs.org not really "legal?"
  7. I was exaggerating Matt, there's plenty of legal stuff, plenty of illegal stuff. I'd say that an officially released bootleg is illegal though, regardless of whether it came from a digital copy or a physical copy. That said, many, many people will download it regardless.

Bono: "We invite people to bootleg our shows. We invite people to make copies, we've no problems with that, but if some guy is gonna make money off the back of this, we're gonna find out where he parks his car."

Obviously venues still try to prohibit the taping of shows.
  8. Phew...that's what I thought. However, there's so much "he said, she said" around this stuff, I'm never really sure what's what.

Here's one: If I used a song from an officially released album/DVD (say something from either PJ20 or U2 Go Home) and mix it in (using Nero Soundtrax) with songs that weren't officially released (say tracks from a 2000 PJ bootleg or U2's Notre Dame show from 2001) is THAT legal to share?
  9. i think that there are different policies from band to band (label to label?)
U2 - i saw many bootlegs with songs removed because of official releases, both cd or dvd even if those releases are out of stock since years
PJ - touring band 2000 (dvd) is still in stock but the songs that are in the dvd are legally shared in the audio bootlegs (out of stock)
but if in the mix you put something from PJ20, like in your example, it should be illegal because there's still an audio soundtrack on sale
  10. Well, if you we're to torrent your mix here and it contains an official track, we'll ban it.

One was uploaded recently, it had some audio from the Paris DVD and we had to remove it. Official material is official material.
  11. about PJ there are unofficial DVDs that use official bootlegs (still on sale - 2008/2012) for the audio .. without problems i guess, but it's forbidden to share the audio official boots; allowed an audience one of the same date though (jam-river torrent site for example)
  12. U2 "rules" are simpler but more "strict" .. anyhow U2 have Paul McGuinness as manager .. PJ Kelly Curtis, a grunge guy since the first hour..
