1. Well, I don't see it that way. It has disturbed me for a longer time but I just didn't think out loud. I didn't want to change because of Discothèque. Anyone reading my post would agree with me a rule change would have made the game more fair. The sole reason not to change is because it is a change.
  2. You were early Matt.

    Lets not mention your profession...

But we started with - three + two, so there must of been a reason for changing it in the first place. In the end the most peoples favourite song will win, which is ultimately the point of these polls, if your two favourite songs are in trouble, maybe their not the most popular songs?
  4. We changed because it went too quick, mainly. I like the current system. If you want to save your favourite song, play it wisely. I could've voted off Please but ultimately decided not too, because ultimately it would have gone anyway. So I created more of a buffer around the song I want to win by taking a point from a top five song.

  5. That implies this is only about the most popular song. Well, it isn't.

If I hadn't told you, you wouldn't have know Discothèque is my second favourite because I never gave it a single point. If I had, my favourite would have fallen. So, how can you be certain that Discothèque 'is maybe not the most popular song' when there could be six others like me?

We don't have to change the rules now, but it is certainly something to keep in mind for the next edition...

  6. I hope that you're a very good photographer, Tim.

If six people had Discotheque as their second favourite song and it was in trouble, then at least a few of them would actually vote for it, that's why Velvet Dress is still floating around. As Tim said, its down to strategy.
  8. 4 - Discotheque
    5 - Mofo
2 - Staring At The Sun
    8 - Last Night On Earth (+)
    5 - Gone (-)
3 - If You Wear That Velvet Dress
    1 - Please (-)
3 - Wake Up Dead Man

Why would they if their favourite song is in trouble? My votes are strategic, but isn't it weird to eliminate songs you think are great when there are weak songs left? If I want With or Without You to win, It may be the smartest thing to downvote Streets, but that is so strange. Moreover, if everyone votee strategic, it will in the end not make a difference. The current system only gives fair results for the winner.

The only reason to be against this change is because it is a change. And I see no reason not to change because I know people will understand the change.

The reason to be against this change is because we have used the proposed system already, and changed it. The last 6 albums have been a process of perfecting the system and it seems we have one which people enjoy. It doesn't make sense to change the votes because a particular album proves to be closer than others, that's part of the fun. I accept you reasons for changing the system, but at the end of the day if not enough people have voted for a song, then tough, its gone.

Please is incredibly weak on the album. It works well live, but that's not what we're talking about here.
