1. K. I play U2 on guitar, and I can't seem to get the main riff from Zoo Station right. The big slide part. I've seen him do it, and its almost like he strums the string super fast and slides it down the fret board at the same time. How does he achieve this? Does he have delay to make it seem fast? Is he actually hitting it that fast? And if he is, is he muting the other strings? someone help!
  2. it sounds just like fast picking, since there's no delay when he stops it on the end of the riff...it's not that hard.
  3. its quite simply this man

    O-
    O-
    O-
    O-
    O- 12/

So a low E with a slight tad of delay and a lot of distortion, slide it fast
    And thats about it.

Man you don't have to be a smart ass about it. It's just that I watched the Chicago dvd last night and it looks like he's doing it pretty damn fast.
  5. here's my take...

    E
    B
    G
    D
    A
    E|-17/----------3-5

You start on the "A" note on the low E string (17th fret).

Slide down from the 17th fret in one motion and pick SIX TIMES in consistent rhythm. then G-A (3-5)

    BA (17)-da-da-da-da-da-DUM (3) -DUM (5)

if this is confusing, think in 3 pairs of down-up strokes; the first down-stroke is 17th fret, the DUMS are 3-5

    down-up-down-up-down-up-DUM-DUM

...and yeah it is really fast and tough to pull off. i didn't understand how hard it was by listening to achtung baby; only when watching chicago did i realize how tough it is. but with practice you can do it good luck!

I was saying that it's not that hard to play. I am not a smartass.

Exactly. That's what is noted on most of the tabs etc in the net. Though riff.

The way I usually play it is using a fairly crunchy distorted tone, sliding down the A string from the 12th fret using 4th finger with the rest of your hand muting the other strings and then playing 3rd and 5th fret on the low E, i.e. "diddle-iddle (A) - Duh Duh" (E). I don't know if that's how it should be played, but it sounds good when I do play lol, because then you can make the strumming flow into the "duh duh" bit. It would probably be easier to physically demonstrate than to actually explain - a) I'm shit at explaining and b) I am not versed in how to write/explain stuff in a tab lol

PS - apologies for being kinda behind the times considering this is a fairly old topic but I felt inspired to provide my meagre contribution
  9. Its easy enough, just tons of distortion/gain
