1. Ha,you forgot to sprinkle in the PJ 2 week tours...LOL

  2. legal matters with the labels of some guests? just guessing.. i really don't know
  3. I doubt that is the reason.Cornell has played many times with them.Shows from LA in 2009 were released with him guesting. As well as Jerry Cantrell....
  4. Having listened to both Toronto shows from 2006, over the past few days,IMO it isnt even close as to what show was better.By far,N2 IS SUPERIOR .

I will place my review here tonight or tomorrow.
  5. Here's mine:

    2006-05-10 Toronto, ON

As much as I appreciated the straight-into-the-new-album opening of the first show, I think the “slow burn” of “Release” straight into the lead single, “World Wide Suicide,” followed by “Life Wasted” and “Severed Hand” worked even better than the first night.

I’m a big fan of “Hail, Hail” and it’s a great song to for the band to use to get back into familiar (but not TOO familiar) territory. Lots of energy here – which is then killed by playing “Unemployable” again (!?).

The next three are great for all fans – “Dissident” (the song from Vs that sounds the most like a Ten song), “Even Flow,” and “Corduroy” rarely disappoint, even if the latter two are somewhat overplayed by PJ standards.

The next five songs might challenge the “casual” fan a bit. Most would be considered “classics” by long-time PJ fans but, admittedly, even I might have not been as into them if I were at this show in 2006. I would be now. I’ve only recently come to appreciate the beauty of “I Am Mine” and the subdued nature of “Lowlight” – I can’t help but wonder what the crowd looked like during these songs, however. I bet some casual fans would have been bored. They pick it back up with “Whipping” although that too might have challenged some. Admittedly, “You Are” still would crack my “Top 50” PJ songs, but it’s nice enough. I think one of the highlights for me comes next in “I Got Id/Shit” – I love this song. Was this the first time EV made the link with it and “Cinnamon Girl?” I’ve noticed that he’s mentioned it on a few other occasions since.

The next five songs include four seminal songs from this band, all played relatively well. Unfortunately, “Marker in the Sand” breaks up an otherwise beautiful run of “Better Man” (with the “Save it for Later” tag), “Jeremy,” Black,” and “RVM.” I appreciate the need for them to play their new material (strangely enough, “Gone” wasn’t played at either of the Toronto shows) but I think splitting the for previously-mentioned songs up with “Marker” would have killed the momentum of those heavyweights.

Into the first encore, they opened with “Wasted Reprise” and then into “Man of the Hour.” I enjoy both of these songs (and these versions) but I don’t think they work well together. Maybe I’m just too used to “Reprise” leading into either “Life Wasted” or “Better Man.” Anyway, I wish they’d play “Man of the Hour” more often these days. It could act as a suitable replacement for a song like “Just Breathe” in future tours.

I don’t think too many people in the crowd would have complained about the next four songs. The sing-a-long of “Small Town” follows “Man of the Hour” nicely but then the show goes into overdrive with “SOLAT,” “Evolution,” and “Alive.” A pretty solid first encore, if you ask me.

Although “Go” is a great show opener (or second song), I really like it opening one of the encores. Just when you might think the show is winding down, they play this song – one of their most intense ones. I think it would have been nice if they kept the energy going for one more song (maybe played “Animal?”) but instead they cool it down with “Crazy Mary” – a great song but I’ve always found it goes on a bit too long in a live setting. Maybe it’s me and the fact that I haven’t learning to appreciate extended organ solos. This also brings up my own questioning if the band really needs an organist (I know, I know, I’m going to take heat for not supporting Boom.) I suppose having him makes the band more versatile in a live setting. That said, I think my favourite shows (at least from the official bootlegs) come from the 2000 tours – pre-Boom.

“Fuckin’ Up” is a nice alternative to “RITFW” – I have really grown to appreciate this song (PJ version, anyway) over the past two years. I often would skip it when I used to listen to Live on Two Legs. And then comes one of my favourites – “Indifference” which is played very nicely and should have closed the show but the band decides to (yet again) play “Yellow Ledbetter” to get the audience to go home. YLB is an awesome song but they should “go for it” and play it early in the setlist during their next tour(s).

Highlights: Release, I Got Shit, Go, and Indifference.
Rating: 4.5 stars (I considered giving it 5)
  6. mine is going to come tomorrow night at the latest
i'll read yours in deep after i post my review

(you should listen more your fellow citizen Matt )
  7. Neil Young? I suppose. I should probably listen to more Springsteen and Pink Floyd as well, but...
  8. no but .. start with Mirror Ball so the transition PJ -> uncle Neil is more easy .. the band behind him should be very familiar to you hehe
  9. ^ ^ Mirror Ball is a classic.....really the only release I go back to...Neils voice always bothered me...like alot.....LOL
  10. ^^what my ears have to hear hehe .. not a voice for everyone i'd say (i like it) .. he has many other skills however
  11. I have just downloaded Albany and Hartford, 2006 from pearljambootlegs.org. Yes, I will try to listen to them ALL!
  12. Toronto,ON 05.10.06 N2

A stunning version of Release opens up N2.Its such a great song, and you can already feel,as if this show is going to surpass N1.Solid versions of WWS,Life Wasted and Severed Hand follow. These 3 are great right after one another. This great run continues, with a grinding version of Hail Hail,a song I have always loved.

Unemployable slows the momentum, trips up the feel, and seems forced here.Playing 4 out of 6 songs from the new release PJ,is a bit much to open a show IMO.Skip this one.

Dissident,Even Flow and Corduroy sound fantastic. It just bothers me that Unemployable messed up,what would have been a fantastic opening.Dissident is slightly flubbed at the start.(Jeff ?) But,I love this one,and it should be shown more respect.

Mike,as usual, goes absolutely bonkers on Even Flow.Really good middle jam after his solo.Crowd get all involved, and love it,as they should. As the song ends, you can actually hear a female say " Oh yeah, that was fucking awesome !!!!".I agree.(I listened to this gig with my Bose Quiet Comfort 15 headphones.Sound is amazing.)

Next thing you know,Corduroy is starting. This is what PJ is all about,Matt going off, drums smashing,Mike jamming,Jeff doing the human pogo,Stone doing the pigeon dance, and Eddie..being Eddie.

The band really put the brakes on,and continue with I AM Mine. This is by far,my favorite song off Riot Act.They can play this one at all my gigs.IMO,this should have been played later on.

Low Light keeps with the slow acoustic feel, but this tune does nothing for me.Never has, never will.Off She Goes anyone ?

Now up,its the heart attack,in your face Whipping. The up and down of the set isnt good.Whipping ( a song I like),should have played after Corduroy.I like the groovy Toronto intro.

You Are is a good tune, but PJ have so many superior songs to pick from.Of course, the start is butchered. It sounds so off.Again, its the song placement.Up and down.Maybe Last Exit could have been played instead ?

2 classics now.I Got Shit and Better Man.I AM Mine might have fit better here ? A toast to Uncle Neil of course, and I can hear a fan say 'I love Neil Young".After “I Got Shit”, Ed told the crowd he had a secret to tell, that this won’t be on the bootlegs (it is) and first sang the chorus of “I Got Shit” by himself, then sang “I wanna be with a Cinnamon Girl, I want to live the rest of my life with a Cinnamon Girl”, hinting the similarity in the two choruses.

Better Man sounds fantastic.Crowd is loud, and Ed backs off during the opening.Solid version,Save It For Later tag is here

Jeremy,my second most loved PJ tune,is played here,in all its glory.I love it,and as I said about Dissident,Jeremy should be played more.Ed introduces it simply saying "This is a song".Crowd sing along during the outro,Ed doesnt go "off",but its still good.

Now,the curveball.Marker In The Sand.Really Ed ? Now,towards the end of the main set you play this ? C'MON MAN !!

I know its off the new album, and yes,it should be played at a show from 2006.But song placement is key.Its a below average song,AND SHOULD NOT BE PLAYED TOWARDS THE END OF THE MAIN SET.

Black,my all time favorite PJ song, gets things back in line. The song just flows.I can see EV singing it here, eyes closed, clutching the mic...just perfect.Mikes solo is spot on,crowd sings "do do do, do.. do do do.....do do do, do.. do do do......"..song of the night ? no question....

    RVM ends the main set on a high.Its a classic,goes on a bit though,but I enjoy it.

Picture what this ending run could have looked like,by removing Marker In The Sand.

    I Got Id
    Better Man
    Jeremy
    Black
    RVM

    Hard to top that run....

    Encore 1

Wasted Reprise > Man of the Hour..Hmmmm,not great, different yes.I would have liked it more played mid set, with I AM Mine, drop Low Light and play these 2.I like Man of the Hour,so I wont go off here, but once again, song placement means so much....

Samll Town..its a classic...Crowd love it....and Ed tells them "tonight really feels like the start of the tour".

SOLAT,Evolution and Alive ? very, very good..these are all PJ classics..love it.SOLAT sounds exceedingly strong here.Great way to end the first encore,4 classics.

    Encore 2

Go,a song I have always loved, opens encore 2 with some serious intensity.Love it.Awesome version here.

Crazy Mary is always fun.Its a good one for the encores.Nice version here.

Fuckin Up is a tune I really enjoy.Great jam here.Id take this over RITFW every time.Props to Uncle Neil.EV cant resist,"George Bush loves this song'....haha..unreal.

Indifference is such a beautiful song.I love it,and Id take this one over Ledbetter every time. You would have thought the show was over here,as Fuckin Up and Indifference are usually show closers. But the band are really on fire tonight, unlike the previous show, and they play Yellow Ledbetter.Ed laughs during the whole song. There was a banner that said "Impeach Bush"...how fucking lovely.

    Long show,very very solid.

    4 1/2 stars

Show could have been an epic 5 star gig.Its very, very good,no question. But poor song placement, and some odd songs in the set (You Are,Low Light ?) took the rating down a notch.Plus,Marker in the Sand killed an epic end of set run.

    Highlights are plenty : Release,Hail Hail,I AM Mine,I Got Shit,Better Man,Jeremy,Black,SOLAT,Evolution,Go,Crazy Mary,Fuckin Up and of course Indifference.
