1. Is this not one of U2's greatest songs ever?

I love the string arrangements in this song. But who died at the end - did anyone work it out?
  2. if it is limited to a ballad context .. i can not answer other than yes of course
in general depends on how many songs are in the greatest songs list
  3. One of their finest ballads, then. I love ballads (yes, I'm a bit soppy in that way...) so this was unbelievable the first time I ever heard it like 10 years ago or so. Amazing song.
  4. Beautiful song, really till death do you part kinda song, like the practicing of all the rules in love
  5. and law..
  6. First heard it on the 1980s compilation - far and away one of their best and one of my favourites. Simple, powerful, beautiful, raw.
  7. Live renditions of this song are always powerful. Personally not too big a fan of the studio version. It lacks the big opening sound that the live version has (refer to Slane).

  9. YES
  10. Many bitter memories tied to this song, I can't listen to it anymore. But yep, it's a great great song.

  11. Well, great minds and all that! Cheers, Ali, am trying to be around on here when I can but can't find the time at the minute don't want to go too OT though!

Agree re. live versions - harness the magic even more. Listened to Glenn Campbell's cover the other day - very good but not sure whether I liked it or not?
  12. My most beloved song of U2 ...n all time favorite .....!
