  1. I'm curious about the tunes you prefer in studio and those you prefer live, for whatever reason. Please forgive if this topic has already been covered.

    My initial take -

    Studio:
    1. Zoo Station
    2. Acrobat
    3. Desire
    4. Unforgettable Fire
    5. Discotheque

    Live:
    1. Exit
    2. Gone
    3. A Day Without Me
    4. Walk On
    5. Silver and Gold
  2. I feel like we have a topic like this already, but I was thinking about this a few days ago actually. Some songs I "only" listen to in their studio version, and some only live.

    Studio:
    1. City of Blinding Lights
    2. Stay (Faraway, So Close!)
    3. Running to Stnad Still
    4. Magnificent (the remixes are all pretty good once you're used to them, and the album version has a really good mix imo, better mixing than song imo)

    Live:
    1. Even Better Than the Real Thing
    2. Please
    3. The Fly
    4. Elevation
  3. I will only list songs that have been played live. As a result, songs like Acrobat and Drowning Man are not eligible. Also, I'm simply listing songs where the version listed is, is my opinion, superior to the other one.

    Studio:
    1. Original of the Species

    3. Wild Horses (Temple Bar Remix)
    4. Stay (they should attempt to get that studio guitar sound into a live show)

  6. Appreciate the responses thus far. A few buddies of mine discuss this topic and the reasons fairly often. Personally, I believe there are some songs that are missing an element, layer, bridge, etc., and are left incomplete.

    By my estimation, about 15% of U2's work would fall in this category, which is awesome compared to most other bands. The only album I see as complete with zero exception is Achtung Baby.

    In some instances, when such incomplete songs are preformed well from the stage, it's almost as if the band found the missing piece and incorporated it on tour. For example, Exit was always a good song, but became great in my mind when they played it harder/faster and gap filled with "Gloria."

    The ability to adapt and enhance is what makes this band so amazing. Very few can compare to their live sound.
