1. it has to be Achtung Baby
  2. Originally posted by sdking91I'm not saying that Joshua Tree is a bad record, because it certainly isn't, but I do think that the second half of the album really lags. For instance, line up Achtung Baby! with Joshua Tree song by song:

    Streets..............................Zoo Station
    Still Haven't Found............Even Better
    With Or Without You.........One
    Bullet.................................Until The End
    Running............................Horses

I would say taht is a pretty darn even set of songs. Joshua Tree might be slightly stronger, but that is certainly up for debate. Essentially though, in my mind, it doesn't matter because of the second half.... look.

    Red Hill.............................So Cruel
    God's Country..................The Fly
    Trip...................................Mysterious Ways
    One Tree Hill....................Tryin to Throw
    Exit...................................Ultra Violet
    Mothers...........................Acrobat
    ...........................Love Is Blindness

Come on now. I've heard arguments for one tree hill and exit being fan favorites, and I will grant that. It is a more than fair argument. But seriously. So Cruel might be one of Bono's best vocal performances, and lyrically it is stellar. The Fly is one of U2's top five best rock songs. Mysterious Ways is the Edge at his finest. Trying to Throw has some incredible writing in it, yet is so simple. Ultra Violet is a roller coaster of brilliant song writing. And as for Acrobat and Love is Blindness... do I really need to even argue that point? Those are easily two of U2's best songs... period.

I don't know if this is a little extreme or not. I"m not trying to make enemies here... I know how many people love Joshua Tree. Just thought it would be interesting to see some responses. Let the games begin.

I never actually answered this thread the first time round and I like this argument - it's how I've always looked at it.
With the exception of One the first 3 of JT thrash AB for me though. But as a whole album AB is stronger throughout.
  3. Achtung Baby

Original purpose of that song was completely the opposite. It's a sad song, about splitting, about breaking up relationships. No reason to be happy (if you're EMO I'm wrong...)
  6. October or Unforgettable Fire
  7. For me, there is Achtung Baby and The Joshua Tree tied for first. But if forced to rank them... something similar to this below.

    ACHTUNG BABY
    THE JOSHUA TREE
    ZOOROPA
    THE UNFORGETTABLE FIRE
    UNDER A BLOOD RED SKY
    POP
    BOY
HOW TO DISMANTLE AN ATOMIC BOMB
    WAR
    OCTOBER
    WIDE AWAKE IN AMERICA
    RATTLE AND HUM
ALL THAT YOU CAN'T LEAVE BEHIND
  8. Joshua Tree. I listened to it for like 5 hours strait after I got it. AB was only about 3 hours but I had less bateries. Non U2 Synchroniciety and Hotel California own.
  9. absolutley love "the tree", but if i have to pick i will go with AB . I was a senoir in high school when it came out .I was hunkered down underneath my art teachers desk listening to "the fly" for the very first time. It totally blew my mind , how in the world could a band that everyone knew to be one way take themselves and re- invent everything we knew about music at the time. I bought the album a day early ( i new a guy who had a record store) and for the next year or so reveled in its power and beauty.there is no weak link in the chain on AB.
  10. The Unforgettable Fire forever

My reasons (I quoted from another topic)

Here's the main reasons (but there's more). I have a special feeling that's hard to describe when I listen to this album (it's funny, I was listening to it when you wrote your question )
  11. All That You Can't Leave Behind

    and then War
  12. Still can't choose between The Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby... Both albums are perfect in their own way. You can't compare Zoo Station and Where The Streets Have No Name for example, both are magnificent.
