  2. it's so weird how time has not really helped this album at all. At least not yet. At the time I don't remember the album being "that" negatively received at all. But now whenever I hear of NLOTH I hear it in conjunction with a "flop" which i don't think is completely fair. Hopefully the next album is something that doesn't have any cringeworthy lyrics because to me that's what stops me from listening to Breathe, Unknown Caller, Stand Up, Snow, Crazy and Boots

    Well i guess a "flop" album by U2 standards is usually superseded by grandeur........

    Hard to see it being a poor album if Danger Mouse is working on it. Brian does great stuff
  5. Yeah Brian Burton is the man I'm hoping gives U2 one last era of greatness, not that 360 wasn't glorious. Is he still working with them? I haven't seen much by way of Brian in the same room/country as U2 haha

    I like Breathe. But I think the other songs are musically a little weak, even setting the lyrics aside... (actually, Snow is OK).
  7. I like Breathe live, it's that weird piano that irks me the most. But regardless Breathe from the way it was hyped by the band should have been MUCH MORE EPIC than the final product imo.

    I still love that they're not saying anything about the new songs. Should be that much more intense when the album finally arrives.

  9. A EP with only the following songs would have been better:
    Breathe,
    No Line,
    Magnificent,
    Moment of Surrender,
    Fez,
    Unknown Caller,
    Cedars of Lebanon.

    But the only weak songs on the album to me are Crazy and Stand up Comedy.
  10. I still stand by what I thought 2 years ago:

    No Line On The Horizon, Magnificent, Moment of Surrender, Unknown Caller - Thats as good a first 4 tracks as anything.

    Then we get the weak middle 2 tracks (crazy tonight and boots).

    Fez could have been so much more, and a real platform to build up the last 3 or 4 tracks. It just seems out of place.

    But, for me, what stops this from being a real top album is the lack of a really great final 3 or 4 songs.

    Breath, yes, love it, its the acrobat of the album, but then it just fizzles out. No Love is Blindness, No Mothers of the disapperared, No Elvis Presley and America, No Please.

    So for me, the album, even now is a 5 track listen. Thats a real shame after the early promise shown.

    Funnily enough I was on you tube and was watching an interview done by BBC's Zane Lowe the week before the album came out. edge was talking about how he thought NLOTH was a true album and not just a collection of songs. That's exactly what it is to me, 4 great first 4 songs that flow, then just a collection of other tracks added on.

    Yep, the ones you mention are the best songs. The first 4 songs of the album are really good, especially No Line, Magnificent, and MOS. Other songs are good. Other songs are duds. No big single. But still some great music, and a great tour. So I'm still happy with it.
