1. Well I guess I'm not most people. The transatlantic cable was a huge deal back in the day and a really important technological feat. The book 'A Thread Across The Ocean' documents it very well. The people who did the cable are heroes. Very important people IMO
  2. I think U2 going to Russia was a good thing. I don't think isolating undemocratic countries works that well. I think it's much better when they can take part of western culture and perhaps get assimilated a bit. Just tell me whether it's China or North Korea that's made the most progress during the last decades.

I also hope that Russia will have democracy sometime soon. Things don't look too well.
  3. Hahahaha. Russia and democracy. Hahahahaha. They never had any form of liberal values, not 300 years ago, not 100 years ago. Not now. Never.

Actually, it's quite sad realising what's happening over there.
  4. Can say the same about EU and democracy: president isnt chosen. And the most important jobs are being 'negotiated'. How much different is that?

We should move this to the politics forum
  5. Yeah I think I was quite explicit when I said I didn't want this to become a political discussion due to an infortunate comment.
  6. Then you shouldn't contribute to it

When I was living there in January it was about $1000 all up for me to go to BDO on the Gold Coast... Adelaide to Melbourne must surely be cheaper than that haha!

I remember a promoter once saying Adelaide was the strangest market to deal with - hence why so many bands bypass Adelaide. South Australia has the facilities for enough tickets to be sold - there is the Entertainment Centre, or for smaller shows - Thebarton Theatre. Although after the experience two weeks ago, I'd prefer to go to Allphones Arena - at least the sound is great and it doesn't feel like a sauna in there.

Put it this way, quality rock bands such as Duran Duran (if you think I'm talking shit, I challenge you to go to a show on the next tour and tell me I was wrong) cannot sell out an entire arena by themselves, as neither can Robert Plant. Nicki Minaj and Rihanna, however....they can. Just shows the climate of current trends; not sure if this is the same in other places.

Just got to do it. I'll be taking a trip back to Melbourne in early May for Aerosmith. And then god knows how much that'll cost - probably comparable to U2 in the same city.
  8. This must be an April Fools joke! When are people going to to understand (and the press should know this) that 10 reasons exsist is about as likely to be the title of the next album as The current Rolling Stones tour being their final one! Come on The Sun, give us some real news as opposed to something that was said and reported all over the place months ago.
