  1. I like the Absolution album..Black Holes is really good..The Resistance (Uprising,Undisclosed Desires) has some really good tunes as well..I dont like the new one,though I only heard it 2 times at a party..should try and give it a listen by tuesday

  3. (Been posting quite a bit in this thread lately. It's exciting getting into a "new" band.)

    Question: What was the initial repsonse to "Supermassive Black Hole?" It's quite different than anything else before it, no?
  4. Black Holes and Revelations was the album that got me into Muse. I was 15 at the time and would've just been starting my final year of compulsory education. Each morning before school, I'd flick between VH1 Classic and another, more current music TV channel (not MTV haha, but I can't remember which). When the adverts came on one channel, you could flick over and be straight into another song. VH1 Classic was a mix of 1980s and 1990s music, typically Radiohead (guaranteed both "Street Spirit" and "Karma Police" each week), R.E.M., The Police, Red Hot Chili Peppers, U2, Morrissey, Joy Division and so on. The more current channel would play more Chili Peppers (thank you "Dani California") along with some Oasis (always "The Importance of Being Idle"), Coldplay, The Killers, U2 (surprising how many bands crossed over the channels) and of course, Muse. Most mornings I'd hear, and watch, "Starlight"; then "Knights of Cydonia" was released shortly after and I became hooked around the end of 2006. So although I now consider most of the music channels complete garbage, I do have them to thank in some way for shaping my music taste and making the early mornings rather good. And although it was Black Holes and Revelations that introduced Muse to me, I wouldn't consider it my favourite album because those that came before it (I'm looking at you, Absolution) are better. I'm still fond of it though and thankful that I hadn't missed it because The Resistance wouldn't have grabbed my attention in the same way.

    Aside from the obvious answer ‘just get the rest of the albums” (instead make a bit of a game of it and just name up to THREE), are there any other songs I MUST have?


    You've got basically all you need to become a fan there. Maybe add the whole rest of Absolution (still their best album in my opinion, although depending on the day I can prefer listening to Origin Of Symmetry). Besides that, my 3 recommendations are Exo-Politics (from BH&R) Cave (from Showbiz) and Unnatural Selection (from Resistance - best song on the album).
  9. It makes sense that I up the count on the songs from The Resistance.

    I still have to get around to giving their latest a proper listen. That said, I'm quite content working through their back catalog first.

    The buildup was around Bellamy saying that the album would be more upbeat than Absolution, and SMBH reflected that. I remember there being a 15 second snippet on their website 2 weeks before the whole song was released with a video. Overall i think the reaction from fans was positive. Ironically one of the first lyrics we hear on the album when it was released was 'burn in hell for your sins', meaning that the album wasn't as upbeat as we originally thought.
  11. I can't stand Take A Bow, one of the few songs I just can't get into.

  12. I don't mind it, I liked it live as an opener or a closer on tour. However on its own its a bit 'meh'.
