You weren't happy with these guys in the mid/late-nineties were you, Ed?

Not at all Matt. I gave up on them by PoP. I actually thought it sucked. Most of U2s "older" fans from the early '80's (like me), felt this way. I was too much to take. The whole dressing up like the Devil ('93) and the Village People ('97),etc. It was more about production then, the glam, then it was about the music.
I was very into DMB, PJ,Oasis, Radiohead,Soundgarden and blur by '97.

Liam would have said "Fuck with that, its about the fucking music man" and Noel Gallagher would have added "The bloody Beatles didn't dress up now did they ?? Oh wait, they did... for Pepper....Still fuck off with that " lol

Yeah, those pastel get ups puts on by The Beatles were a bit confusing.
I guess Bono got away with The Fly persona and both the Mirrorball Man and MacPhisto characters. I was okay with those but even if the "Discotheque" fashions were supposed to be ironic, that seemed a bit much for me.
However, I do like that muscle-shirt that Bono wore during the PopMart tour.
