1. Au contrare, Fabian, there are only one or two songs I don't like. I think his drift towards intensity and relaying discomfort in his music is fresh and has a very raw vibe to it.

Black Skinhead, Can't Hold My Liquor, and Blood on the Leaves are my favorite at the moment.

What bothers me most is how the lyrics transfer from poignant, powerful, and cutting to downright stupid and absurd in mere seconds during some songs.
  2. Those three songs are indeed the best songs on the album.

It feels a bit like the discussion we had after the release of The 20/20 Experience. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Kanye's latest solo album, was a masterpiece. His drift towards intensity is definitely interesting, but in the end I like the old Kanye better.

Yes, and as time has gone on, I have actually fallen away from 20/20 more than I ever did with FutureSex, so there is a point to be made there. It went from #1 album of the year to #4 or so very quickly. Here are my top albums of the year thus far:

    1. Vampire Weekend - Modern Vampires of the City
    2. The National - Trouble Will Find Me
    3. Kanye West - Yeezus
    4. Justin Timberlake - The 20/20 Experience
    5. Daft Punk - Random Access Memories

It seems to be such a typical list, but those albums can't help but be great!!!

And with Jay-Z just announcing a new album, man....this year is just STACKED with great releases.

    No My Bloody Valentine?
  5. At the time of its release, it was my #1 of the year. That's how many "#1 albums" this year has seen for me so far.

    It's top ten.
  6. It's still top of my list. Personally, I think this year has been fairly disappointing. Random Access Memories didn't do anything for me, neither did 20/20 Experience. Many potential great releases, just not really living up to the hype.
  7. Are you not a fan of The National? Very brooding music that I've just recently gotten very into. This is their fifth or sixth album, and it's the one that's finally got them all over the radio here. It's a dense album but the opener hooked me and the rest never really let go.

Give it a try, if you'd like. Otherwise, let me browse through my current list of what I've listened to this year and see if I can pick out a couple oddballs you might enjoy.
  8. PM sent your way with some recommendations, Kieran.
  9. I haven't listened to The National's album yet. I'm falling behind in this year's releases purely because I've been getting into other artists like Neil Young, Fugazi, Misfits, etc. After I've seen Springsteen tomorrow I'll just listen to all the albums that I haven't approached yet.

Thanks for the recommendations, I'll reply asap.
  10. No rush. And yeah, I usually fall way behind in the summer which is what's happening now. And I'd actually like to revisit The Beatles soon, I listened to some full albums the other day and decided I'd like to spend some more time with that music.

Have a blast at Springsteen, man! So jealous! My #1 show of 2012!
  11. Yeah, sometimes you end up listening to some of the old stuff. That's what has happened to me.

I cannot wait to see Springsteen! Looking forward to three hours of rock n' roll!

20/20 was disappointing at first, then grew on me for a few days before I dropped it. Mirrors ranks third in my 2013 Most Played list though.

It surprises me that you prefer Timberlake over Daft Punk. U2 will have a hard time beating RAM.

What do you think of The Weight of Your Love (Editors) and Love, Lust, Faith + Dreams (30 Seconds to Mars / Lillywhite)?
