1. On the eve of the reissiue, well in U.S (shame us europeans have to wait TWO MORE WEEKS!) i thought i'd share my memory of March 9 th 1987.I was 20 in '87 and on the day of the release of JT i bought it in .H.M.V on both cd & vinyl during my lunch break. The 1st thing that stuck me was its cover which was placed all over one of the shop walls,it was then i knew this was going to be a big year for u2.When I got home that night to listen to JT for the 1st time(the only song i'd heard was W.O.W.Y at the time) I'd Forgotten I'd arrange to go out for a beer or two a week earlier. Then just as i settled down with headphones my doorbell RANG!!! it was my mates.I said "Can I listen to this before we go out".They knew what U2 meant to me and said yes. It's seems funny now not imagining our world with no W.T.S.H.N.N but then listening to it for the 1st time on headphones i remember hearing the low bass drone thinking this starts simular to how M.L.K ends .The next thing every hair on my body was sticking up and i knew this was going to be worth the two and a half wait,(wish it took them that long now).My Mates soon started laughing at me as was now in a euphoric state.I managed to hear JT before going out but coudn't wait to hear it when i returned home.Looking back now i does seem like yesterday ,so strong was the efect it had on me so when I listen to the new "super duper deluxe" version it wont be the same but at least we've got memories. And who knows we might be able to hear the album how it was meant to sound in the first place..ENJOY
  2. What a brilliant story! I was 10 in '87 and too young to be aware of U2. I got to know JT through drip-feeding from live shows (ZooTV) which was when I got into them (triggered by the Desire single).

I wish I had the chance to listen to the album without knowing the songs. But they still have an impact even on the many-thousandth listen!

The sense of anticipation is there for the re-issue, no doubt.

Don't forget if you're in the UK that you can download the deluxe version from iTunes today...

same happens to me, I was 5 when it came out....
but it's a brilliant idea for those who where into U2 at the time...
cheers! keep posting!! I really find it very interesting..
  6. I was 18 at the time of the JT release. I managed to get hold of a 12x18 prelease advertising board (it fitted into the LP racks of the time) in the weeks leading up to the release and in those pre-internet days I seem to remember little snippets of information in the press, one quite clearly stating the LP was to be called Joshua's Children. Anyway the rest of 1987 is really soundtracked by the Joshua Tree including the usual 18 year old's experiences in life and love etc, and going to see U2 at Wembley Stadium on the 13-6-87 (bootleg downloaded) Anyway I am really looking forward to the re-issue but sometimes looking back is not good for you so onwards and upwards
  7. I've grown with that songs, they have no "special meaning" for me. Anyway, great history, nice sharing.
