1. I've got a quick question about CD burning--I hope this isn't illegal to ask about--

Is it possible to extract the WinRar files you get from Rapidshare onto CDs? If so--how? And is it legal to do so, or are the files just for use on your computer?

Thanks in advance, and again, really sorry if this is an unspoken thing that you shouldn't do because of privacy or the hard work that goes into putting up all these files.
  2. You mean the bootlegs? I am quite sure it's ok to do...I am not good at explaining this, but yes, it's possible. Somebody else will sure help you here.
    see ya!
  3. The first question: are you using Windows, Mac or Linux? That way I can narrow down what you could use (I have used all three and find Linux best for CD burning, simply because of k3b). Mac is pretty good for multimedia (Final Cut Pro, iTunes, iLife, QuickTime...). Others could give you a better description on that as I don't primarily use a Mac).

For most shows you'll need two CDs (anywhere after the Joshua Tree shows). One CD contains from 650-800MB which is about 80mins of MP3s and most shows are more than two hours so two CDs needed for that. You can burn audio DVDs but they require a lot more work but the benefit is that they're eight-ten times the size of a typical CD-R so you can fit a lot more audio on them. The gap is harder to keep as MP3s don't natively support the gaps. FLAC and other lossless formats (not natively supported by Windows) does but not MP3 because it introduces two-seconds from that so you'll hear either a blip or silence for 2 seconds.

You can get either iTunes 7.5 from www.apple.com/itunes (for Windows and Mac) or Windows Media Player 10/11 (Windows) from http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmedia. Nero 7 can be downloaded as a trial for Windows and Linux from www.nero.com which does a great job, but costs a packet to buy. I also like CDburnerXP from http://www.cdburnerxp.se for Windows.

Read the help guide of your program too and that should give you some hints.

As far as I'm aware there's no harm in using the downloaded boots for your own use - CD's for the cars etc. I'v emade several myself.

If you're on a Mac give me a shout and I'll be happy to help. Otherwise I think Drew's got it covered with his answer.

Bascially speaking extract the Winrar, get the files on your computer (eg desktop) then organise them in your favoured way to then burn a CD. It's relatively simple once you've got the right software.
  5. Oh God I hope it's not illegal at all, because i have over 100 CDs made out of bootlegs...

    xDDDDDDDDD

NOW you can get surprised: I only have ONE show burned fully (on its entirety) on a CD. It's London 1982-12-06. The other 120 or 130 CDs are compilations made of different botlegs, etc.

EDIT. It's a terrible lie. I have TWO shows. That '82 London and Madrid 1987-07-15. Sorry

    Hhahaha...
  10. i put all my bootleg straight to cd from download
  11. If your not selling or in anyway making a profit from the CDs then i think its ok. Mean if it was illegal, sites like this would be pushing the limits a bit, not only providing the MP3s, but also the CD covers.
if you read the forum info section it explains that u2 have no problem with bootlegs as long as you don't sell them or claim them to official material.

Just don't go selling something you got for free on eBay or something like that. Sharing, burning to disc, playing in your car, putting on your MP3 players is fine. That's why CD covers and the MP3s are provided - and there wouldn't be sites like u2torrents.
