1. My first discovery of U2 was a a video of four guys playing a fantastic song, on an AIRPORT, with aircrafts flying just above their heads...Since that day I tuned in many times on that music channel, hoping on a reappearance of that video.

Another cool song came, Elevation, also with a really rocking video. Later on Walk On becae one of my favs too. I was 10 years old at the time, so buying a CD in the stores was no option. The Elevation period was over, so there was no U2 anymore on televison. So my interest in music got changed, I even watched video's of songs with styles I really hate now. Only Coldplay still really gets my attention.

Then it was November 2004. On TV I saw a live performance of a new song, Vertigo. I was rocked. I started to get the new album, and later on I collected the other albums. The Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby almost got broken, so many times I played these albums...

And then I wanted to collect some live audio files, and with some googling, and some YouTube advertisements, lead me to this fantastic web. After that discovery I loved the band 3 times as much, and that loves grows every day
  2. Well i was a big fan of creed, which i seen them in concert of there last tour and was blown away, when they broke up, really left me with a big void in my life. But then around the same time Beautiful Day was out, and it sounded very fresh to me back then 2002. then i brought best of 1980-1990 and grew on me fast. Thats how streets first came into my life, and i could acutualy hear a little piece of heaven on earth. Nothing ever moved me in that way. it was and still is the best feeling to hear their records, most having very special places in my heart forever........Just want to thank U2 for that.

  4. I had always heard them on the radio and their CDs were always lying around my house as a kid, so I knew the basics (Streets, Pride, One, WOWY, ATYCLB). I really got interested about 3 years ago when they did that commerical for the iPod with Vertigo. I couldn't believe how cool each member looked doing what they were doing-- it made me want to sing, play guitar, bass and drums all at once! A little while later I found on the internet the video of Sunday Bloody Sunday at Red Rocks and was amazed at how captivating they were...a few months after that I got the Slane Castle DVD and as soon as they launched into Elevation I knew they would be my favorite band forever.
  5. Hearing Kite for the very first time.
  6. i had a 8th grade math teacher that went to 14 U2 shows, all for free and front row. all he talked about was bono and he had a wall filled up with U2 pics
  7. My first U2 experience goes way back to the early 80's, around 1983/84.

A friend of mine at the time, a school friend had this record with an image of a singer holding a flag pole, with a blood red sky in the background, off course it was "Under A Blood Red Sky".

I remember listening to New Years Day, and Sunday Bloody Sunday and I Will Follow, in fact the whole record swept me off my feet, and to this day, am a MASSIVE U2 fan.

I also remember bugging my parents to buy me the brand new record for Christmas "The Unforgettable Fire", and smuggling it out whilst home alone, i even taped it before i was given it for Christmas [yeah yeah i know, pretty naughty], and staying up all night watching an Aussie music program called "Nightmoves" on which they showed clips from the live video of Under A Blood Red Sky, and would remember getting very excited when a new live clip was aired, and pressing record on the video recorder.

Myself & mum also stayed up all night watching Live-Aid, and making sure i didn't miss my favourite band play - U2, and witnessing what was to become a legendary performance, and the song Bad to become one of my all time faves.

From that day, i have bought every album, every 12" single, every cd single, searched far and wide for rare promo's, bootlegs, books, magazines, anything that has the name "U2" on the cover! .

  8. ATYCLB which was bought by my brother. I already knew the lads..became fan in 1998 and die-hard around 2001/2002. Will listen to them till death do us part..
  9. Let's see.... I've always liked the basics (Streets, Pride, etc. Basically every track on the Best Of 1980-1990). But I really became a fan in 2004 when HTDAAB came out. I loved Vertigo and Original Of Species. Those two songs are still very special to me because those songs made me realize that they were going to become my favorite band. I love all their songs, but I still love the hits. U218 is actually one of my favorite CD's even though it's just a compilation.
  10. It was 1985 and I was in high school (god I'm getting old!). I remember hearing the song 'the unforgettable fire' on the radio and I was completely gobsmacked.
I bought the album (vinyl offcourse....) and must have played it a hundred times in the first few weeks. Such brilliance! I then saw the video of Pride and fell in love with Ireland. After that I met my girlfriend (now my wife) and together we went to see U2 live in Rotterdam on july 10th ,1987. Since then, U2 is providing the soundtrack to my life...... (or does that sound a little over the top?).

Is it OK if I quote myself just this once? I just remembered: my wife and I went then on a sort of pilgrimage to Dublin (thank God she also loves U2) to see Windmill Lane, hannover quay, Seven Towers, and the harbour (the one you see in the Pride video)
    those were the days.....
