1. Thankfully I was at one of them. Regrettably (again!) I was not at the other. The two shows make a fantastic pair.
  2. What is everyone's thoughts on how the Melbourne 2014 festival show could turn out? I am seriously considering going. Will be about $600 for the trip, so it's not out of my league to get there.
  3. Hmmm....as great as PJ is, that is quite a bit of cash to see them. Not that I should be one to talk as I spent a relatively excessive amount for two tickets to see them in London (Ontario, Canada) this past summer.

My "concern" with seeing them at two festival shows is that you might get a lot of repeat songs (mainly hits, mind you) and it's not the same as going to two separate PJ-only shows.

All of that said, if you plan a trip to Melbourne and PJ just happens to be playing there, why not go for it?! I was in Melbourne (and Sydney) many years ago and both are great!
  4. Yeah Melbourne is one of my favourite cities. It's got everything. Although the only reason I would be there would be to see Arcade Fire and Pearl Jam again on the Big Day Out festival circuit here. It's a lot but it's only a week's wage over the summer holidays. I am really in two minds about it.

Similarly, I'm going to go see the Kings of Leon in Sydney on the 20th of November, IF I can get a ticket. They are playing a club show at a place called the Enmore Theatre, which has a capacity of 1600. I'm in Brisbane so I've gotta fly about 1000kms, $75 for flights each way, plus ticket and accomodation puts me at about $500 for one day and night. I guess if I can get tickets and go to that I can decide whether I'd be keen to do it again to see PJ, for a little extra. The only thing I'm not sure about will be the performance/setlist aspect, being at the same festival and all about a week later.
  5. Can you make a bigger trip out of it? In other words, stay for a few nights as opposed to just one and do other things than just the festival?
  6. The more I think about it, I think you should do a road trip (at least on the way back) and make it three shows and see them in Sydney!
  7. Hahah that would be awesome! I would definitely do it if I had a mate who was keen on it, but alas, I am the only hardcore concerteer of my friends. My mum is as keen on Bruce Springsteen as I am on U2 and Bruce, she's heading to four shows in three cities in Feb, but she's not keen on PJ. So I'd have no company haha.

I would stay a little longer in Melbourne if there were sports on, but in January, we have very little. If the AFL, rugby or rugby league was on I'd stay around to catch a bunch of games, but cause they're not, I'd just be there for about 24 hours. And plus, my current concert schedule is hectic enough as it is!

  9. I know the feeling all too well.

My mum is as keen on Bruce Springsteen as I am on U2 and Bruce, she's heading to four shows in three cities in Feb

Wow/cool! My mom was nothing like that!

  10. She's the one who got me into the whole music/concert scene and I've just taken it a step further myself. But mum's generally the first person I talk to about going to shows or getting tickets and things. She's seen them all and it all started with Bruce back in his hayday in 85! Bowie, Neil Young, Bruce, AC/DC etc, a lot of bands who I only wish I could have seen back in the day

But she still doesn't like Pearl Jam (mind you, I think she only thinks they are grunge and screamo/heavy from the 90s- not the band who can sing Better Man and Nothingman and Daughter etc)

    I see your attending 2 DMB gigs....nice......

John Mayer I saw at WPB in SEPT.

    He was great

  12. Yeah they're playing the same festival (Byron Bay Bluesfest) twice and I'll be there all five days. Looking forward to seeing them twice actually. Always wanted to see John Mayer too and the festival was a perfect excuse to see him too
