Not too nerdy for musicians like us, I'm really interested in this. You're right about the verses' main melody sounding suspended, but I wouldn't say it doesn't resolve on the minor root of the original song (D minor, originated from the original D major). I've played along to the remix and resolving it on Dm sounds perfectly right - to me at least.
Funnily enough, when I first heard it I though for a moment "wow, it sounds like Garbage's version of Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses on the Akhtoong tribute album"... Good ear Dieder
