  1. I can see U2 getting it simply as a tribute to Mandela. And as Genaro said, it IS still the best out of the favourites.
  2. Yeah the only real competition is Atlas I think. U2 might get it though simply because of Mandela's passing and the Academy would want/love a band that big to perform the song they are nominated for and draw in viewers
  3. Atlas is good but it's also just a phoned-in Coldplay song. Ordinary Love, as polarizing as it might be around here is objectively a good song, whether or not one might like it. My brother who is a huge Coldplay fan absolutely hates Atlas on the premise that there's just nothing really there, which I agree with. Not only that, but it has like nothing to do with Catching Fire in a specific way. Katniss doesn't WANT to "carry your world" - at all.
  4. Atlas is just a typical Coldplay song. It's good, but it's nothing to write home about. Ordinary Love is pretty different from what U2 has done before, but it's done very well.

    Wouldn't say different and don't think that will make a difference really to the ones who decide who gets it.

    Other than that, it would be great if they got an Oscar. Like Sergio said, something they don't have already. I hope this last few days showed them they are still relevant even when they make a weak song like Ordinary Love. Hopefully it will give them a boost and finish the new album finally.


  7. All trumped by the one major factor that is Hollywood politics.

    It may well win but it wasn't the favourite for the Golden Globe; Sergio's right when he suggests it would be unwise to put money on it.

    I'm no fan of rap or Eminem apologist but 'Lose Yourself' is a far more iconic song than McCartney's lame duck or Hands; it was a fairly worthy winner
  8. I completely love Lose Yourself but I'd rather see U2 win the Oscar than any other band. I hope to be proved wrong by Oscar's academics, and let's hope you're right about your predictions, Peter
  9. Keep in mind that there are close to 90 members of the Hollywood foreign press association, yet there are more than 6,000 members of The Academy.

  12. Just to be clear, I'm pretty sure Invisible will be the first single from the new album. On the Red Carpet when interviewed by Ryan Seacrest he asked them about the next album and Edge talked about "a song for the Red campaign, and that'll be the first thing people hear from it, we can't say much about it but we have big things planned".
