We just rang his wife. He has just passed away. I am numb.
I think my dad just lost his best friend. He and my mom just drove over to their house to give comfort to his wife. And they celebrated NY a few hours ago with best of mood.

No words. Just like that. Gone. If only I'd drink alcohol I'd get myself drunk like hell this very moment. When will this ever stop.

the funeral was two days ago. it was difficult of course, but the ceremony in the church was beautifully arranged. the music they xhose to be played for him was aan instrumental piece by Santana, and twosongs by German singers. Well chosen lyrics. I felt my dad shaken next to me and tears were flowing. When the church people came to carry our friend's remain out to the graveyard I realized for the first time he really is gone for good. Hard to deal with.
His wife is broken, 45 years with him side by side and now the hous is empty and silent. We do all we can to help her get along.

The thing I took home with me from the ceremony? Something the priest said. Something like "You only die once. But those who stay behind have to live with your loss every day." Something like that. It made sense. So I changed my mind and changed my last will. That's all

this was just fr the record, for those who read my previous post here as quoted above. Let's go on with life now
  4. ^ that must have been tough for you and his wife, I'm so sorry I'm glad that it helped you realize that something, and maybe make your journey a bit easier (?). There's a positive side in everything, even in the darker of the darkest times.
  5. There's been a shooting spree at the University I attend, today.

Just letting my US friends on here know that I am okay, as are all of my friends. It's national news in the US right now.

Glad to hear you're okay Matt, that must be quite surreal something like that happening so close.

Holy fuck. Glad that you're okay, Matt. Horrible scenes to hear. Just read about on BBC News.
  8. That's crazy. I'm glad you and your friends are safe. Never easy reading about these incidents, particularly when you know it can happen again and you are in a position to be affected.
  9. Good to hear you're safe. Must be really scary. Just read about it and it seems it was just a standard murder with someone going after a specific person, which is awful, but good in that the murderer didn't kill numerous people, which I imagine would've been possible.

As Remy said, must be surreal, like it is when things like these happen so close.
  10. Whoa. That's frightening.

    Stay safe.
