1. I don't really count the songs of ascent rumors back in 09 as "U2's next album" rumors. We haven't had actual U2 activity (album/tour) since 360 ended in late August 2011, so it's been just over three years.

    End of Popmart to ATYCLB - 98 - 00, 2 years. End of Elevation tour to Bomb - 01 - 04, 3 years
    End of Vertigo tour to NLOTH - 06 - 09, 3 years
End of 360 til now - 3 years.

Sure we've had a lot of false starts, but we've had two new U2 songs this year and the rest fits in with how they've been working in the last 15+ years. I'm impatient as well, but not as much as some of you..

So far the best opinion/analysis I have read in this topic..
  3. CMIPalaeo: Getting enough promotion, in just the right way, could really put U2 back on top with a new generation of fans. But if it doesn't work, it's not exactly as if they've lost.

Great point...I doubt U2 will ever be on top, other than top grossing tour of the year. Young people in general don't go backwards to get into new music...I wish more did though. Many popular young artists aren't doing anything live...just "performing" along to mostly pre-recorded music. It can't hurt to try to get some young fans. When I was young, people my age explored older music. Bob Dylan and Stevie Wonder were not unknowns to us...they still got airplay. I heard "Invisible" a few times on the old-timers stations...and then it was gone.
  4. Think seeing is believing in this case
  5. I am posting as an assistant in The William Morris Agency based in Los Angeles. I am involved in setting up preparations for an announcement to be made on September 9. What I will say is that Dr. Dre, being a new employee at Apple, and U2 - having a partnership history with Apple, Inc will be taking the stage together on September 9. They will perform U2's new single TOGETHER - hoping to elicit a reaction as in when Aerosmith and Run DMC performed "Walk this Way". This is going to usher in a new resurgence for U2, and Dr. Dre will be instrumental in setting relevance and new standards for this band. Apple, Inc is tangentially involved in this partnership. I wish I could say more, but I will end on this last note: I have heard most of the new single. It is incredible.
I wish everyone the best, and hopefully you will enjoy the live stream on the 9th!

    Ehrm...

  6. And more stuff from the same guy:

The single is entitled "Proof". One more for the road:
"Peddlers of dreams and hopes and fears
Chasers of a bliss that elicits tears

Fate made and warmth did provide

A nourishment for our souls to survive"
"I walk towards the sound of your fire
And yearning to feel the heat

    The borderline of cruel desire

And an opportunity to be complete"

I haven't posted this anywhere else. I posted it here because I was chatting with my best friend who is a big U2 fan and I was giving him all the info of what has happened over the last few days. He said he reads this site and I should "share" the info. So I shared a decent amount of it. Edge is really good in this song. There are some "electronic" beats but there is a SUPER catchy guitar riff by Edge. He also does some acoustic guitar in the song. I also saw some backdrops that they are getting ready - one is of Bono in front of the group who are leaning against something that looks like some sort of concrete pillar. They closed the door when I was walking by so I didn't get a perfect look.

    and:

U2 does not "rap" in the single. I haven't heard any of the other songs (4) that they will perform on Tues. And, finally - boom - we now have to sign NDAs so I can't post any more info. From what I've learned today, all U2 fans (and Apple fans) are in for a real treat next week.

But to all on this site, I'm glad I had the chance to get you some info. All of you, like my best friend, have been waiting for quite some time for new stuff from U2, and I truly, truly think you will really enjoy what's coming. And the whole Dr. Dre thing - it's been integrated very well, it doesn't come across as cheesy and contrived - it is very well done.
Good luck to all, and your wait will soon be over! Have a great rest of the week and weekend, and enjoy Tuesday! It is going to be a pretty big production.
  7. NOT what I was expecting if this is the case.

If anything I trust U2's publicist or whoever that was more than this dude. That being said, as others have already said, the publicist could have been denying it to just keep it under wraps. Either way, super weird.
  8. Hahahaha. This is funny, I don't believe it at all to be honest, there won't be anything U2 related at the Apple presentation next week and we'll have to wait some more.

This is my feeling as well.

U2 and Dre? I might believe it more if it was more of an organic coming together, but I can't see either artist pitching in for a song JUST for a company like Apple. Especially when Bono has slagged the company in recent years (I think I remember something..).

I also can't see Dre wanting to team up with U2 of all people..
  10. Those lyrics... It doesn't feel like Bono's writing at all. Probably fake.
  11. Well if it's fake someone probably has had quite some fun with those lyrics.
  12. Ummmm, thinking how to belt these lyrics out in the car or in a stadium.... Very poetic, very unforgettable fire.
