thats true. It's not all that bad at all

IMO, it gets better as you go through the set. Maybe my ears were just adjusting. It's a known fact that I'm somewhat of a quality-snob anyway...

I have to agree. It steadily settles in and gets to 3.5 levels. I'm just gonna leave my comments on Sunday like normal. On '40' now.
  4. Sorry guys, I'm not gonna make it for this one...will give you the next show on Sunday and join in for that ...can't wait to read your reviews!

ooow yea...I had exams this week so I had to choose earlier!
And just a comment on the quality of the show, ...of course it's good for 20 years ago, but the bootleg rating system here shouldn't rate them relative to the year they're from ...I mean just because there wasn't decent recording technology back at 87 doesn't mean that the bootleg should get the same rating as a very clear vertigo show.
    Just my thoughts

And very good thoughts they are too.

    I think it's a 3.25 myself
  8. so i guess I'm the first to post today so here we go.

Joshua Tree - 1987-04-20 - Los Angeles, California

    Ahh, a Joshua Tree performance!

Sound: The beginning is a little rough but gets better throughout the concert. Maybe its my ears adjusting to have it was recorded. Good sounding boot though. Great audience sound. Really gives the performance some depth. Not that U2's performance is bad, it's spot on IMO. I could use a little more bass myself

    The Good:
MLK - I love this song. I like how U2 puts this up at the front of the setlist. Fantastic
Exit - This song is badass. I'd like to see it return
Bad - Bono voice is great, love the Ruby Tuesday snippet
October - although not the greatest performance I like that its here
With Or Without You - good performance
I Shall Be Released - great shit

    The Bad:
Sunday Bloody Sunday - just dont like it at this tempo. I prefer the slower version
Maggie's Farm - just don't really like it.

Overall: Great boot. I'd recommend this as a good starter for the Joshua Tree Tour. Great setlist, performance is great and sound quality is very good considering it was 87 and its been tranferred from a cassette. Bono's voice is fantastic throughout this concert. Nice treat having Bob Dylan for a few songs. The audience level and participation is wonderful. It really adds to the quality of the boot.

    Rating: 3.5 stars sound
    3.5 performance
  9. Good review fenderman

Can't believe only one review has been posted so far...you guys are slooow!!
  10. 1987-04-20 - LA

First of all, I had very high expectations from this show (afterall Rocks Hottest Ticket was recorded little over a week after this), but this show didn't really push my buttons. It is a JT show sow it's automiatically better than hundreds of other U2 shows but for me the show was below par and below expectations.

    Sound

Fenderman got this spot on. Pretty poor to start but it does gradually settle in to a nice nsounding recording. Great balance between crowd and band. 3.5 overall.

    Performance

Not a lot to say. Bono still hadn't shaken of his voice problems that he had encountered in Tempe and that dragged the show down a little. The band sounded like it hadn't really got into a rythm at this stage of the tour, there was more than a couple of bum notes in there. Although none of the performances were especially bad, the only song that made my ears prick was I Shall Be Released (and i'm not even a big Bob fan). One thing that I did enjoy this show (and most of the early JT shows) was that Bono wasn't to cocky, he didn't have that swagger about him that he had in the later leg. He seemed to still be humbled by the success of the band and I enjoyed that. Overall performance : 3.5

No summary this week. Just wanted to note one thing. I only listened to the show in Friday night and as I sit here, the only thing that I remember from the show was I Shall Be Released and that just about sums it up for me. Thanks for reading
  11. btw folks i'm gonna change the topic title to just 'Bootleg Round Table'. We've gathered and it's been set up already.
  12. 1987-04-20 LA 3rd Night

    Sound

Not a lot to add to previous posts really. I noticed the difference with this and Vertigo boots for sure, reflecting it's age. Streets was ropey sound but overall it didn't affect my listening to the show.
Nothing to pick out particularly good or bad.

    Performance

Very solid. But like Gerard I was expecting more. I fell asleep listening to the boot which is not a good sign (although admittedly it was late).
Maybe expectation was too high compared to the Popmart boot but I actually got more out of that one.

I enjoyed Bad (great drumming) and I Shall Be Released. All the songs were ok, but should have been amazing as they are on other JT boots.

    Summary/Notes
I listened to this only once (Thursday night) and it was on my laptop via headphones which didn't necessarily help matters. But given the trouble I had getting it this was better than nothing!!

I liked it but expected to love it and whilst it will stay in my boot collection it's not going on my iPod. I have better JT boots

Right Ali, what you got for us?!
