Assume you're looking at the 16GB version?

You do get a full web browser (which is very usable, I post on here quite regularly from it), youTube videos, address book, diary, calculator.

And don't forget Apple has now gone back on it's decision not to open it up to 3rd party software developers so there will be add-ons and applications you can add by the end of the summer, latest. And they are developing Nintendo DS style games with EA sports for next year too. This might mean that Skype would work (they'd need to enable bluetooth though).

Can't do any of that on the Classic.

Yes, you still need to carry a mobile to make calls on (and photos if you must), but that's about it. Does everything else

Newer (2nd gen) versions will likely get memory upgrades and longer battery life, but there's not a lot else they could do to improve it in my opinion.

As you can tell, I think it's worth every penny if you have it!!!

you can't navigate it with one hand like you can with a Classic. It's a 2 handed affair which isn't to practical

Actually you can. You just need to be dextrous with your thumb. Easier with two hands no doubt, but certainly for music playback it can be used one-handed (there are some built-in shortcuts that they don't tell you about in the manual....)
