  1. I stand by my view that this album is most like October if we're to compare it to an album in their catalogue. It's super personal, has catchy and quick tunes with heavy lyrical content, and delves deeper into the men behind the band than any other album does.

    U2 did what most up and coming bands do all the time. They produce music and release CDs at their gigs. U2 just pulled it off on a grand scale. I never had much regard for Sharon and this is another nail in her figurative coffin for me.

    However...

    Ramones drummer Marky Ramone said he thought Joey (who passed away in 2001) would have been “honored” by the song, while Leigh admitted he was blown away by the gesture. “I’m not sure grateful is the right word, but awestruck is a better description,” he said. “It’s so beautiful. I loved it. It’s Bono’s interpretation and his spirit, but it also captures Joey’s spirit. He described my brother’s spirit well. I think he got just what Joey would have wanted out of it.”


    This was pretty good.
  3. Sharon Osbourne has a net worth of $220 million. Who is she to criticize U2 for being business moguls? And what has being a reality TV celebrity to do with making great music? Songs of Innocence is way better than anything Ozzy has ever done. Give me a break.

    I saw the news about Joey Ramone's friends and family appreciating the new U2 song. Take that, haters and cynics!

    Cannot agree purely because I cannot stand October and I love this album. It may well have similar personal insight, but the music is leagues apart

    Sharon is criticizing U2 because as a business mogul herself, she is legitimately upset that she can't pull herself from the shadows to the spotlight with a 10 minute media appearance.

    A 5 minute performance followed by a 5 minute conversation put U2 on the front page of every magazine and all of U2's albums on the front page of itunes. She's pissed because no matter how much she's worth, she can't pull off something like that.

  8. What's interesting to me is that this album is more consistent than ATYCLB, HTDAAB and NLOTH, but there are no 10/10 songs on SOI in my opinion. For me the new album has a lot of 7-9 out of 10 songs. No song is great as Moment of Surrender, No Line on the Horizon, Sometimes You Can't, City of Blinding Lights, Beautiful Day and Walk On which in my opinion are perfect songs. (even if most of those are overplayed)
  9. You could probably say that about Zooropa too, but I still listen to that album way more often than their past two despite the single-power.
  10. By "past two", do you mean HTDAAB and NLOTH, or NLOTH and SOI?

    Every Breaking Wave and The Troubles feel like 10/10 songs to me, but the other three albums you mention may have more of them.
