1. There will be a new song called: Elvis :)

Right now the world is getting rocked by SOI, both the method of release and the content of the album. Releasing another album now wouldn't give them any more of the spotlight because the are already front and center. I'm guessing when the physical album comes out, U2 will make their rounds doing performances for all of the famous talk shows; SNL, Late Night, GMA, etc. U2 knows how to promote an album, so expect to see them on TV for a while.

When the new tour kicks off, us hardcore U2 fans will obviously be glued to it, but ultimately their overall impact outside of the U2 camp will drop. This is unavoidable because they will be focusing on gigs and not so much on public appearances. This is the ideal time to release the next album. If SOE is as strong as SOI, it'll put the spotlight right back on them. It won't be as shocking as their surprise album showing up on itunes, but it'll put them back on the radar as a group releasing a new work.

Knowing U2, they will want to spend at least a couple months after the physical release of SOI to promote it in ways they know how. Knowing that, it does seem pretty likely that they will start their full-on tour in Spring/Summer of 2015. Also, I know that historically U2 has never done festivals with Glastonbury being the only exception, but assuming their intention is to be performing in Europe over the summer and given that we don't know anything at all about the tour at this point, is it possible that U2 might change their game plan and start off with festivals?

Frankly, i don't see your point.
It's just that I think the concept of a twin album (or double, if you wish) is exiting. songs of innocence and experience, wouldn't that be great ?
  3. According to Bono it isn't even finished yet, probably the main reason it's not out at the same time.

But they did the same with AB and Zooropa, it came out mid-tour. It was different because they actually decided to write/record/release all during the ZooTV tour, it wasn't waiting in the wings when Achtung Baby came out. But still, it's a good strategy.
  4. Yeah, I wouldn't want another album right right right now. It's better to wait like Alex says.

Well, the fan part of me obviously DOES want that album, but you get my point.
  5. They can take another 5 years before the next album is released,as long as it's good.
    Quality not quantity
  6. I'm hoping 18 months or so. Much looking forward to the two new songs and the acoustic versions next month for the time being.

Bowie, Floyd, Noel G are also apparently about to get new albums out (PF is certain, next month; Bowie's has been recently rumoured by Tony Visconti, his producer of 40 years; Noel G is being silent, and when he's silent, he's working).

So lots of new music, I'm sure I'll be able to manage the next 18 months. But not a day longer!

A(nother) new U2 album would of course be on top of my list... I'm sure they won't be releasing it right now, though: it wouldn't make commercial sense.

I'm a bit skeptical given the SOA saga, but not so sceptical: Larry (or Adam? can't remember) himself said they would release and then shortly after release again last year or so.
  7. I agree again. For God's sake, we've waited 5 years and a half for an album, and now another one is being offered in just a year or so time and we complain?
