    Radiohead is absolutely selling out. U2's release was the announcement of a new partnership and we'll most likely see Apply footing a lot of the costs for their upcoming tour, just like Blackberry did with 360. In Radiohead's case, they aren't partnering with BitTorrent. They are basically using BitTorrent as a means to cut out the middleman, but as I said before, it's very ironic because it leads to the album being less accessible to those who don't go out of their way to look for it.

    Regarding the music industry, I've felt for a very long time that the money is no longer in album sales. It's in touring. Most groups try to produce albums at a quick cycle so they always have something on the market, but U2 is probably one of just a handful of bands that can make a tour profitable. As I said, Coldplay's hugely popular tour just barely broke even.

    And yes, I stand behind my statement that Radiohead is not musically relevant.

    Since Songs of Innocence came out I've been having trouble keeping track what each topic is discussing at that moment lol.

    Agree with you on Coldplay, Ghost Stories is a step in the right direction. I hope they can keep that up.

    Radiohead isn't selling out, this is a Thom Yorke solo album that was just released. And if you consider Radiohead/Thom Yorke selling out then do you consider U2 whores? Because what they do on a regular basis is just obscene to the point of embarrassment. Putting the album on a torrent given the artist much more power than shoving an album onto your iTunes for an honest price which is what the average band/artist/singer could realistically do. What U2 did was an anomally and isn't realistic to the average band. The album is ridiculously easy to access, I don't understand why you think Torrents are difficult to access.

    LOL I'm sorry but in the world of electronic music and in this digital age Radiohead are one of the most respected bands around. Do you listen to any IDM? Flying Lotus, Bonobo, Caribou, Deadmau5, Flume, and the world of contemporary electronic music is massively influenced by the last 14 years of Radiohead's music. Whether you listen to that style or not it's an entire subspecies of music. Entire stages at Coachella, EDC and Glastonbury are dedicated to the new-wave of beatmakers and experimental bands. Calling Radiohead irrelevant because they aren't "on the radio" is obscene more people under the age of 30 have felt the influence of Radiohead far more than than by anything U2 has done in the last 15 years.
  7. That's my last word on that topic, lol. On the actual topic, I find myself skipping Volcano... I don't care for it. Sounds too much like a crap B-side from the Bomb era.
    I might just delete it like how on NLOTH I deleted Stand Up Comedy.

    Also, this album is REALLY easy to get through, I'll be listening to it on headphones or have it playing and it flies by before I know it I'm at Cedarwood Road or This is Where and I'm like, "THE ALBUMS ALMOST DONE?" NLOTH I remember was really difficult to get through and it felt longer than it really was as an album.
  8. Volcano is a great halfway point to the 5 superb songs either side of it... It is needed as it's a throw away rock song in the same vain as elevation, boots, vertigo but actually better than all 3 of those...

    Silly question but may already have been addressed elsewhere in the forum but who is actually going to buy the album apart from us hardcore fans... The casual listener won't bother.

    Yeah that's true, but I can't tell if it's just because it's new. In the long run I feel like Elevation and Vertigo might be better songs in my opinion. But for a throwaway rock song it's definitely a step up from Boots and Comedy.

    Right? I was thinking the same thing lol. The sales of SOI are going to be very interesting, probably the lowest ever since everyone got it for free.

    I'm actually curious to see how things play out for U2 from a financial standpoint. Back when I made my persuasive speech arguing that free media distribution is beneficial to musicians, my argument hinged on one main point; receiving free media would encourage recipients to financially support the artist through other means. Looking at the aftermath of U2's free release of SOI, this is, for the most part, how things are playing out considering the fact that other albums in U2's discography have seen a massive jump in sales. However, I've said over and over that the money is not in album sales anymore; it's from touring. That being said, if my idea of reciprocity holds true, U2 might be setting up a tour with the potential to shatter the records set by 360.

    Obviously, it's way to early to tell since we don't know much about the upcoming tour except that they will be playing "indoors more than outdoors" and they have "11 great reasons to leave home." I do agree that SOI will have extremely low sales, with most people purchasing it for one of the following reasons.

    1) The satisfaction of owning a physical copy
    2) The desire to get the extra tracks
    3) They forgot to download it during the free release and are stuck paying for it
    4) Extreme enjoyment from being captivated by the cover art

  12. For sure I'll buy a physical copy of SOI, the deluxe edition, because of the extra tracks.

    For me it is also a way of collecting cd's, like I also do with model Ferrari's and Springsteen live recordings.
