It sounds as if with most recent songs, they have tuned it down half a step to cater for Vedder's voice. It is the same with Gonna See My Friend – he can't replicate the intensity of his vocals on the record live. Obviously if you're playing 30+ songs, you want to preserve your voice, but it sounds really damp. I love it on the record, it sounds tight as hell. I was disappointed with it live, admittedly.

We both seem to making arguments against not only each other but ourselves! I'm making arguments against the newer, faster stuff (yet defending Getaway) while you say play the newer, faster ones but Supersonic and Getaway don't live up to their studio versions.

    We are silly.
  2. Hey, RUMMY. Can I bend your ear for a moment?

I absolutely love the song "Future Days". It represents one of the reasons why I have a true fondness for their second era. Their meditative and introspective side is beautiful and I love when they bring it to the forefront.

However, when I wasn't looking for it, I think I found a lovely musical counterpart to play before beginning the song. It's a piece of music from the anime Clannad entitled "Kochi (piano)" by Shinji Orito (or, to simplify, "Spring Breeze (Piano Version)").

I know off-hand that they are in two different keys and their tempos differ ever so slightly, but somehow I think they are absolutely wonderful together. I would love it if you would listen to this combination and gave your thoughts on how it sounds to you. Would you, please?

  3. I can see where you are coming from - especially around the 50-second mark of the song.

One of the great things about these guys is their ability to ad these little intros and outros (snippets/tags - whatever you want to call them) to there songs. It may be as something as seemingly simple as the little additional picking EV does at the start of Immortality to a all out cover of Interstellar Overdrive to start Corduroy but it always makes the song become more special - for me anyway.

I think you may be onto something here. Maybe they need to add more to many of their newer songs in their live shows instead of just trying to emulate the studio version. I will be the first to admit that I didn't really like Sirens at first but hearing it live with the outro they developed part way through the 2013 NA tour made me appreciate the song.

  12. Earlier I hadn't realized that Austin was only an hour behind NYC/Toronto time. I just might be able to follow this entire set if the band abides by their 10pm curfew - although that doesn't give them that much more time!
