1. Exactly 25 years ago today, U2 started their 4-night "Lovetown" stand in Rotterdam.
To honour that occasion I like to share with you a fresh remaster of the January 5th show.

I used what I think is the best sounding recording of that day. The only problem of that recording is that it played "too slow" (see notes below) and that the volume is not evenly distributed .

I don't have much time as I have to celebrate my mom's birthday today (and catch that train real soon!), so at this point I can only share the concert in 3 mps's (it's the complete concert between them). Here is the link to the u2start torrent .

    Download with sendspace:

    https://www.sendspace.com/file/txk7c1

    https://www.sendspace.com/file/kz9aev

    https://www.sendspace.com/file/chkf04

(EDIT Jan. 8: These three mp3 files have now been updated; that is, all crowd noise that appeared twice has now been removed. These are the mp3's as I will have them on my iPOD myself (bitrate = 256kb/s). For the show in seperate mp3 files, see the show page. In those files also the entire piece with PA music is included.

    Here are my (prelimanry notes):

    U2
    January 5, 1990
    Sportspaleis Ahoy
    Rotterdam, The Netherlands

    "SINGING BACK TO LOVETOWN"

    LINEAGE: D6 master > Analog 1st
    (speedcorrection "verified," remaster)

    Track list:

    1. God Part II
    2. Desire
    3. All Along The Watchtower
    4. All I Want Is You
    5. Where The Streets Have No Name
    6. I Will Follow
    7. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
    8. People Get Ready
    9. Bad
    10. Van Diemen's Land
    11. Bullet The Blue Sky (incl. Star Spangled Banner)
    12. Running To Stand Still
    13. New Year's Day
    14. Pride (In The Name Of Love)
    15. [Crowd singing "40"]
    16. Angel Of Harlem
    17. When Love Comes to Town (feat. BB King)
    18. Love Rescue Me (feat. BB King)
    19. "40"

LINEAGE: [SOMY WM D6 with unknown mics] > D6 Master > [COPY]
    Analog 1st > [unknown transfer] > CDR > EAC > FLAC [2005] >
    WAV > REMASTER: speed correction (Goldwave)* > DC-offset >
Volume adjustment (manually, no clipping) > EQ (16-256 Hz) >
edit and fades: after ISHFWILF (=tape flip) fade from crowd
noise elsewehere); PA music at start and outro music >
track split > FLAC (Frontend 6) > torrent with TLH
PS: I have left the tapeflip after NYD "as is," including 0.154
    seconds of "dead air."

*reference here is Twist&Shout, played over the PA before
show starts. The original clocks "2:32", while the tape needs
2:35 to complete Twist&Shout (I have measured, however, between
noticeable markers to make sure that the difference stands indeed
    around the three seconds).

  2. Thanks. Will sort things out later this week when I'm back home
  3. i will download it later . Thank you !
  4. Just listened to that concert again today. We have threads to celebrate the Depot shows but these four concerts in Rotterdam are in the same league. I hope we can take the time to appreciate them as well.
It seems that it's not a Dutch U2 concert if any of the following is missing:
    (a) The "ole, ole" football chants
    (b) Bono says something along the lines: "You are the loudest motherf*** there are in a U2 concert"
    Respect!
  5. Don't tell anybody, but I probably prefer the Rotterdam shows...

Well...sort of thanks! But being Dutch myself, I'm glad the "ole, ole" at concerts is a thing of the past

This sentence applies to a U2 concert in The Netherlands.
  8. A proper good run of shows. Probably only bettered by Dublin due to the New Years Eve gig, the going away speech and the quality of the recordings.

Amazing to see footage of these shows from 1990 then watching footage from ZooTV only 2 years later. An amazing transformation.
  9. ANOTHER reason to adore the Lovetown Tour is that it features the longest intros to Streets ever. Not the best versions neccesarely (I prefer how Larry and Adam drove the song a little heavier on Zoo TV renditions), but the longest, most intense intros. And the audience roar, ah ♥

Thanks for this fantastic remaster, Joyce! The "slow running" problem is common to many pre-Zoo TV bootlegs, I think due to inconsistencies during the analog transfer. The worst part of it is that differences in speed usually lead to an increase in the pitch of the audio, which can be more annoying than the slower speed!! Glad you have fixed it with no further problems. This is now the best recording of this show
  10. I really meant it as a compliment Joyce. Even if Sergio revokes my U2start membership, if I could go to an European show, I'd rather go to Netherlands or Italy.
Again, thank you very much for the remaster. I'll try to cut the 3 parts into songs and put it in our pages (giving you credit, of course).

Thanks Cesar! Please wait by cutting the mp3's into parts. I will share my torrent shortly and I also noticed that the "intermission" part has a sequence of applause dubbled. I want to remove that first...
