1. Second post has been updated to include newcomers, reflect the change in schedule, and generally tidy things up
  2. Sounds great. Thanks a lot for updating, Tim, so helpful to have you moderate this with me.

What will our next album be? Tomorrow is already Thursday, so let's get a submission of our next album, along with a steady stream of reviews for "Dada" !
  3. I'm not sure I could post together a full formal review, I feel like my thoughts are still too scattered - but I did live-post as I was listening to the album, and thoroughly enjoyed chiming in on the discussions that this listen spurred.

What an excellent choice Drew, really expanding horizons and having people listen to different music that gets us talking. Even though not one of my favorite albums, one of my favorite selections for this project by far.
  4. so reviews tomorrow?
  5. Any time you'd like!
  6. Well, I'd rather not post up a page of ramblings that somewhat resembles a review like I did last year. This year I'm opting for active discussion throughout the week and a short summary at the end of the week.

As I mentioned right at the start, Alice Cooper is an artist that I've been meaning to get into for a while, but I've only just touched upon his work through Trash, Lace & Whiskey, and Muscle of Love. So I was eager to give this one a listen. New, but not unfamiliar. The dark themes of the album really hit you in the opening song, with an eerie conversation taking place set against equally eerie music. And although the themes continue throughout, they are often juxtaposed with quite upbeat music and splashes of humour which doesn't bring the album down. Particular highlights for me include Fresh Blood (though a distinct Genesis feel may influence that), No Man's Land, Pass The Gun Around, and DaDa. I did enjoy I Love America and Dyslexia too, but they are a little bit throwaway given the subjects of those tracks and not something I'd listen to outside of the album.

I think listening to this album has further highlighted why I should continue down the road of Alice Cooper discovery. So far, he has yet to put a foot drastically wrong for me. Though, I am reliably informed by Drew that there are a couple of releases that must be swerved. All in all, an excellent start to this new round of selections.

This is really more the idea/mission of the thread
  8. So...
I will post something like summary/short review:

I'm not fan of Alice and probably won't be, but Dada is definitely interesting album. I like conceptual albums and Dada has (weird - as you can expect with AC) story - about weird family, schizophrenic father who abuse main character, freaky hidden brother (who killed mother?), vampire/cannibal themes (Fresh Blood or kinky threesome with vampire twins Scarlet and Sheba), parody of typical american (I Love America) and finished with his problem with alcohol (Pass The Gun Around).
Musically it is interesting too - many influences there with just bits of rock. Main music theme is musical, new wave influences (Dada), bits of Pink Floyd (and also singing in Enoug's Enough sounds like Syd Barret), oriental music (Scarlet and Sheba), rock of 60's (No Mans Land), great guitar solo in Pass The Gun Around.
All in all good and very interesting album, which won't make me listen to more of AC, but I will probably return to this album sometimes. Thanks for this choice, Drew.

    Alice Cooper - Dada: 7/10

P.S.: Now I'm curious, what has Sergio for us
  9. The Decemberists and Belle and Sebastian coming soon in shops but already in streaming.......
