  3. 10 years? are you kidding?? time flies... I also experienced my first u2 show during the vertigo tour (germany, gelsenkirchen) and I suppose the setlist or performance or whatever doesn't matter, not even in retrospect, cos it was my first show and it'll always be special to me.

    my bootleg collection used to be much, much bigger than now and I remember there was one particular US show with a killer love and peace or else intro. gave me the chills every time. sadly, I don't remember which show it was :\

  5. Like Sergio, dream Vertigo setlist, based on reality, with one exception:
    Condition "sine qua non": NO tired and long political speeches, no human rights, no "anyone has a cell phone?", no "Coexist" speech in the middle of SBS and no "Edge is from the future" old gag.

  6. We all talk about how much we don't like the human rights and political portions of U2's show, but let's face it. Their interest in human rights and politics is what makes U2 unique. Most of the their most popular songs are political in nature, after all. For us hardcore fans who will listen to every single bootleg, it's no surprise that we'll get tired of Bono's speeches, or the reading of the UN Charter, or the recording of Archbishop Tutu. But still I think it's good for Bono to use the stage to preach his views.
  7. Believe me, I fully, wholeheartedly support all these political causes, but in Vertigo it was too much. They toned it down in 360 and it was still powerful, with D. Tutu or Aung San Suu Kyi's speeches and a few words between songs. The long speech in the middle of SBS killed the vibe for me.

  9. 10 years? It seems it was a couple of years ago...

    Anyway, this will always be one of my favorite tours. Like many u2starters, my first time in a U2 concert happened during Vertigo Tour. The atmosphere and the setlist of some shows were really amazing in my opinion.

    For the Vertigo Tour, the group originally considered dropping the song from their setlists, but Mullen and Clayton successfully argued against this. All 131 of the Vertigo Tour concerts featured a performance of the song, which were accompanied by the stage's LED video curtains displaying African flags. On the tour's opening night, this reminded Bono that he had originally written the lyrics in an Ethiopian village. He thought this visual accompaniment made the song come full circle, saying, "And here it was, nearly twenty years later, coming back to Africa, all the stuff about parched lands and deserts making sense for the first time."


    It seemed like this tour presented an opportunity for Bono to rediscover the true meaning behind the song.
