1. Has there been an official version of the single released or just the one on Soundcloud that has the radio announcers introducing the track???

Disagree. I think it's a great song, but I don't think it's any better than other songs on SOI. I'm also not sure what you mean by "in years", but despite the fact that Bomb isn't universally loved, I think it's U2's last big powerful album. I feel comfortable saying that a few months after SOI came out now.

Iris is still my favourite song on SOI btw.
  3. Even after getting the album the moment Bono announced it to be available, I still can't rank the songs within the album. They are each very strong in their own regard. However, I think that individual song rankings can take away from the fact that SOI is one of the few U2 albums that actually feels like a complete album as opposed to a collection of songs.

It was said once (1x) that they shouldn't be together. But they still are and seem very happy despite the troubles. And it's not like they're bombing her for being with the boy...

    a) The video is not about "the original meaning of the song". This song is like One. Some say that it is about Edge's love life, others say it is about Bono and Ali. Some people can say it is about God and speaking about U2, you're all probably right. But then, why is that important? This is not a video for the song, with U2 involved in the artistic decisions. This is a McArdles's project and she wanted to tell her story. Judge it by that, not by whatever you wanted to see for the song.

Haha, I actually laughed at this argument. Or it's between Edge and his wife, or Bono and his wife. So different. It's clearing about a looming breakup. Then the video should by about that subject. Or a band video. Could you see a war video for, let's say, Happy by Pharell Williams ? Don't think so.
Plus, everyone here said the video for Sleep Like A Baby was rubbish because it doesn't match with the subject. And now it's ok ? Make up your minds please.
  6. Glad to know I amuse you.
The video for Lemon has nothing to do with Bono's mom, should I say then that it's rubbish because of that?
Besides, what if the interpretation of the director for EBW is that: a love in turmoil, separated by external forces? That's the beauty of U2 songs, they can mean many different things to a lot of us, unlike sappy, poppy Pharell William songs.
I didn't like the SLABT video because it was pointless, or rather, the point was unimaginative: yes, we consumed everything on earth and then the earth comes back at us, like the urobouros. This is an intrinsic judgement of the video, not based on any preconceptions. Can we do the same thing with the EBW video?
  7. I hope you understand you were just pointing out a difference when there's none.
While One can have many different meanings (maybe that's why there are 3 videos for the song as well), I don't think there can be many different interpretations of EBW. It's about a relationship under stress, doomed to fail. I don't see that reflected in the video. They're NOT seperated by external forces. Their individual lives are hard because of the Troubles, the relationship seems the be their only escape route ; the light in their lives in dark times. This is a beautiful thing, but imo not fitting for the lyrics. If you guys all do see a link, ok, fine. Probably because you WANT to see it, but I still think it's waaay better for The Troubles then EBW.

About SLABT : one could say the dinosaurs are 'sleeping like a baby tonight'. That's as related to each other as this video.

About Lemon : it's the same as I said about EBW => Great video on its own, not fitting the content.
  8. I think everyone is looking too much into it. It's not U2's video for Every Breaking Wave or The Troubles. It was that woman's video project. U2 provided the music, and that's pretty much it. It's not going to be on MTV or anything like that.

Yes, that is actually my main point. Imagine you put your blood and tears into a project and then you hear criticism about 4 other dudes, like being too much U2, exploiting The Troubles era, trying too much to create a hit on the media, etc. If I were McArdle I'd be like "errr... it's my film, not theirs, can we talk about that?".
  10. The condensed version is now on U2's official Youtube account. I really like it although I miss the haunting parts where The Troubles appeared.

  11. They straight up turned the short film into the music video for Every Breaking Wave. Frankly speaking, it fits really well
