It's a nightmare we're all going to have to face in the next 10-15 years as they go into their 60's. Can't stop age and passing of time.

I think the band are on fire, best they've been.

But potential improvements in voice recently notwithstanding I'm concerned that Bono doesn't have his old "something" that he talks about being intrinsic to U2 live. Hence me starting this topic in the first place.

I love the stuff he does away from work, I'm very proud to be a U2 follower and say that (I know not everyone here agrees with that). And I don't think it has any impact on the albums (I liked HTDAAB a lot). But I'm worried it's starting to have its toll live (tiredness, memory of lyrics, long rhetoric in middle of concert).

Amen. I too, am very proud to be a U2 follower. And I love HTDAAB. (3rd Favorite behind JT and AB) Live is what I'm worried about. I love the early VT shows, but the second leg is atrocious in my mind.
  3. Well, the boys are getting old...Bono will become the second Pavarotti, but in a Rocky-jacket and the fitness and energy of the band-members will shrink within the next 10-15 years. Every start has an end, unfortunately U2 has an end too. I think that day will be one of the worst in my live, but also a special one.

    Yep.

Mind, the Vertigo concert I went to counts as 2nd leg and I really enjoyed it. More than Elevation (not as much as Popmart). He sang well and there seemed to be no hesitancy etc.

I think the Middle/South America etc leg is where it really suffered (is that 4th leg?). Shame really because the crowds are stunning there.

Picked up for 5th leg of course, so there's always hope.

This is who they need to base themselves on, no doubt. This guy is growing old very gracefully. And no prompter that I've ever seen or heard of.......

Care to expand on this Ali?

    Wow Dan, you're triple-quoting me!

The milan thing ...the whole DVD for whatever reason gave me a too-commercial alert! And I don't know...the moves he does in the beginning of Vertigo, don't look good, and lots of the stuff he does later...they look cheap sometimes!

But that's just me being weird!
I like the guy more since he cut the hair down, he looks much more mature and cool (to me!), seeing this amateur video of Honolulu, I loved that show, he didn't do too many extra unrelated stuff...this, being the last show of Vertigo actually gives me higher hopes for the next album and tour.

    Adam's energy won't shrink. He'll be performing 'till he's in his 90's..

No doubt. It was always going to have to happen.
  8. I thinks it's ok to use a telepromter
I'd rather listen to most of the right words, especially if I paid so much for a ticket,
rather then get a crappy performance..

and he still mess up some songs which is natural..

I'd rather see him taking the time to rehearse the lyrics instead of using a prompter. I've spent a fortune on these guys. He could at least prepare himself for the shows.

    It was all worth quoting!

I agree that things are better than then. I never liked the Vertigo look. Not seen Honolulu (:( - was that a * cough * ? ) but I think you're right. And I liked Islington.
