it's going to be an uncomfortable drive. I'll be very surprised if you hear a lyric (not joking either)

    You in tomorrow Drew? Gerard?

If anyone should be mad about bad headphones, it should be me. I've been listening to music on these junk ear wrap headphones. Thankfully, I just bought a new Koss PortaPro today off Amazon.com. No more bad sound for me.

    Not this week.
  8. What's up everyone. Here are my thoughts.

1989-10-16 Melbourne, Australia - National Tennis Centre

Sound: Not too bad, definitely better than 2.5 stars. It could just be my ears, learning how to adapt to the differences in bootlegs. But overall this a pretty decent sounding boot. Great audience sound.

    The Good:
Hawkmoon - I must confess, this is my first time hearing this live. I've been meaning to get a boot with this on it but just never got around to it. I enjoyed hearing it
Desire - good version i thought
Bullet - Good version. Not as good as the later versions but you can feel this song starting to take on its character. Love Bono's speech thru the middle.
    Streets - great opening
Angel Of Harlem - with the horns its just great
When Love Comes To Town - I just love some BB King! A master!
Love Rescue Me - Bono sounds great on this one
    God Part II - Kickass

    The Bad:
Gloria - just not really getting into this version as much. I love the song though. Just not able to match the Dec 31, 1989 performance. That version kicks
All I Want Is You - uninspired

Overall: Indeed this boot should be rated higher. Good decent all around sound. Considering this was the last of 7 nights, the boys sound great. I feel an energy coming from them.

    Sound: 3.5 stars
    Performance: 3.0 stars
  9. 1989-10-16 Melbourne, Australia - National Tennis Centre

    Sound:

When I tried the iPod I didn't like this. However, burnt to disc and in the car with a little bit of eq fiddling I didn't find it too bad. I've heard a lot worse. I'd give it 3 stars

    Performance

    Pros

Pretty much everything for me I have to say. I loved this show. In particular:-
Hawkmoon - Like fenderman I'd not heard this live before. Thought it was great.
    Desire - very good
Bullet - Storming. Listened to it twice. Neighbours = LOL!
Streets - great opening - agree
God Part II - Very good
    "40" - excellent

    Cons

    Not a lot

    Summary

A top band on top form, clearly enjoying themselves. Excellent tour and this is a fun boot. I've not heard a bad Lovetown boot yet and this didn't disappoint.

There are far better quality recordings for Lovetown available (Point Depot obviously, Rotterdam) but users would be foolish not to give this a listen. You just need to chose your equipment carefully.

  10. Can I post my review, even without having joined previously? I listened to that boot a few days ago.
  11. 1989-10-16 - Melbourne, Australia (7th night)
    -----------------------------------

    The Recording: 3/5

    >> Positive…
    * With all the quality issues, still the audience can be heard very well, especially at the parts where they have to be heard, when they make the songs special!
    * The drums are quite loud and clear which makes it all sound very cool!

    >> Negative…
    * Everyone’s said it through the week…the quality isn’t good, though it’s not 2.5 either in my opinion…I would give it 3 myself. There are many parts where it just goes out of your hands, you’re hearing all this noise and wondering what’s going on!
    * Edge’s guitar sometimes gets even annoying, during Streets, you almost can’t hear the guitar intro and then in the middle parts of the song, the guitar just becomes annoying! The Heartland snippet in the beginning is hardly noticeable because of the quality, if I didn’t know it was Heartland I would’ve thought that it’s just Bono talking nonsense!
    * Small point, but All I Want Is You isn’t recorded right, in the beginning:”…your story to remain untold” and then suddenly a small *bam* and “…you’ll give me, a highway…” 

    The Show: 5/5
Note: I was unable to listen to WOWY and the rest of the show (i.e. till the end of 40). This review is based on the pre-WOWY part. Unless something huge happens in that part, I think the overall review would be quite the same >>
Ow yea, it’s a great show despite the quality. Actually, the recording made me very sad, this show deserves a much better recording. After my ears got used to the quality, I really enjoyed the show itself!

    >> Positive…
    * It’s the Lovetown tour, it was an amazing tour after all! Bono is very much in form and does a great performance in my opinion…the voice is there, and the man himself is very much there!
Some highlights (all the songs are done wonderfully and memorable, but these still stand out):
*All Along A Watchtower, very good performance, it’s also got the Like A Hurricane snippet which goes great with it.
    * Bullet The Blue Sky, Bono says some stuff about the American president talking to him, it does get a bit cheesy, but makes it cool, specially the ending “and I look at the Edge, he looks into my eyes and he says: ”Bono, I can see them fighter planes!”
    * Running To Stand Still has got this guitar in the ending, I believe it’s Bono playing, very nice, the audience are amazing during this song, also near the ending suddenly Larry starts hitting the drums, very cool!
    * The audience is still amazing during ISHFWILF, what’s with the doctor backstage and the fever… is he serious? ‘Cuase that would make this a cool moment. Also, “You’ve got a great country, great city, don’t fuck it up, alright?” …and then…Exodus
    * Angel of Harlem with the B.B. King orchestra…long time since I had listened to this version The audience is again very well heard during When Love Comes To Town :”that was the day before love came to town!!” (note, BB’s guitar becomes annoying during this song, again, quality issues!)

    >> Negative:
If we’re really talking about the show, I didn’t come across anything wrong with it…you could say that some of Bono’s comments sound cheesy and out of place…but not really, surely they matched the situation! 

    Overall:
This is an amazing show, a blow-away, they are well in form, people follow them perfectly and everything seems to go as planned.
But the recording clearly fails the show here, It’s a 3 star recording for a 5+ star show.
If you’re used to bootlegs and are as die-hard a fan as we are here, I think you will enjoy it despite the whole recording quality issues.
The show won’t stay on my iPod (only because of the recording), but it’s not leaving my collection.
