Here's my review for this week's bootleg:

1989-10-16 Melbourne, Australia - National Tennis Centre

Sound: The quality was way better than I expected, the first couple of minutes were hissy and too loud, but the taper found a better position, so the overall result was way better than a 3 star quality, I would give it a 3,5. There's only one major glitch, during the first verse of AIWIY, for the rest of the recording, there are no big mistakes.

Performance: As this was the last night of a 7-night run, the band wanted to make it a special night, and we can say they succeeded in it, the show is flawless, the setlist is near to perfect, I was very happy to see 'Bad' and 'SBS' dropped to make way for rare tracks like 'Hawkmoon 269' or 'God Part II.'
Bono is in a very talkative mood this evening, he changes the middle part of 'Bullet The Blue Sky', talks all over the intro for 'WTSHNN', he's really into it, the band also enjoys every single minute of the concert. I noticed only one weak moment, the snippet of Marvin Gaye's 'Sexual Healing' is really really unnecessary during AIWIY, especially when sang before the third verse.

Ups: Hawkmoon 269 (fantastic song live, get it back, please!), Running To Stand Still (one of the best live renditions of this song), Angel Of Harlem (horns!, horns!), God Part II. (it's a killer live tune)

Downs: Sexual Healing snippet

All in all, this bootleg was a very pleasant experience, a little reminder of how extraordinary was the Lovetown tour.

General Jots:

--Hawkmoon was so awesome. I wish they would play that more.
--Desire continues the awesome.
--All Along the Watchtower has the final verse this time. Neat.
--Bullet was raw and rough, in both the good and bad way.
--A lot more talking than usual, i.e. Running to Stand Still/I Will Follow.
--Streets was holy, duh, and love the Heartland snippet.
--Taping was screwed up during All I Want Is You & Pride, dang it!
--Bring on the B.B. King Orchestra - People Get Ready & Angel of Harlem were fun.
--B.B. King owned his section with them.
--New Year's Day & Party Girl rocked.

Final Thoughts:

This show was a bad intro for me into the Lovetown tour and for one reason... THE SOUND! This recording was made on cheap cassettes and it shows. After listening to the UF Chicago bootleg, which sound better even though it's older, it shows that even cassettes can sound better than this.

The show was pretty awesome, though. But the sound...

Slightly harsh evaluation of the sound there I thought. If you want good sounding LoveTown then grab any of the Point or Rotterdam shows. I thinki'm gonna try and aquirethe lossless of this show. I bet it sounds way better.

I have sensitive ears (which is weird, because I continually blast them in). So I can't stand recordings that just grind into my poor eardrums. This show did, and it distracted me a lot from enjoying the bootleg.

By the way, I have the Point Depot and Rotterdam shows, I just have never listened to them.
