    They coud release The Crystal Ballroom as a single, give it a really cool video and promote the hell out of it in order to drum up support for the deluxe version of the album. I know of a few artists who end up releasing a single that is only found on the deluxe versions.

    Joey Ramone seems to be the concert opener and Invisible the set 2 opener. There are front end "clumps" of songs but some have swapped between Set 1/Set 2. Cedarwood is in the middle of the set despite the premature NYT quote. Still guessing on the giant light bulb.

    After the recorded voice intro to Miracle Drug there is theStreets opening drone it features what appeared to be Edge singing a verse/chorus of Sting's Fields of Gold. I heard this same snippet/song grouping last week week but couldn't pick out the words/melody that were low in the mix. Similar to Bono doing the bible verse during the Streets intro a couple tours ago, but over a minute long.

    E-Better is the recent mild remix heard in dance sets by Deadmaus/Skrillex(2X4 mixtape?). More a subtle flavor twist than full makeover.

    Blinding Lights & Streets are both about 5 BPM faster than previous tours. I only noticed on the 3rd day I heard it.

    The Sunday Bloody Sunday remake has now been heard at least once in 3 different weeks, which is a musically a strong commitment than the 2009 acoustic version.

    Another transition that I heard tonight as well as last week was the acoustic Every Breaking Wave ending in a long note held by Bono going directly into Bullet. A very jarring transition that was similarly used early on ZooTv with Bad/AIWIY/Bullet.

    There seems to be a 5 minute ZOOTV-esque intermission video(like flicking through the tv channels every few seconds). Could only heard political stuff(Obama/Condi Rice name checking) mixed in with some tiny Sex Pistols Anarchy in the UK sound bites. I still don't know if the "intermission" is like the 5 minute Popmart Lemon video or they throw up the houselights for 20 minutes.

    One/WOWY/Ordinary grouping seems to be a strong candidate to close out the evening.


    I'm really, really excited by this news! I think the Miracle Drug -> Streets combo could really work, and I hope they keep the Fields of Gold snippet at the open of Streets, it's a great song and could really work. Not so sure about No Line being acoustic - it's a really heavy rock song that was hard done by on 360 - but hearing it in any capacity would be nice. Hands That Built America would be cool to hear, and Sweetest Thing (hopefully it'll be a little livelier than on Elevation...). Nice to see they are apparently committed to a new version of SBS too. And TTTYAATW...!
  8. I guess I'm in the minority in here, but I at this point of my life I honestly don't care what songs they decide to play from their catalog... the only thing that I'm interested right now is in the new songs, that they're played, how are they played and that they're well received.

    Yeah, I like if they play Bad, Bullet, and The Fly, and totally would love if they go for No Line, Fez, Acrobat, Mofo or some other gems, but as long as they're playing the new songs I don't care if the rest of the set is full of old war horses or alternative versions of good songs, or obscure rarities, either of the amazing or the boring kind.

    The only thing that doesn't fall in "the old stuff" is "the new stuff". Old stuff never or rarely played live is still old stuff, and while it would be great to hear it, I'm really not excited about that. The future of U2 depends a lot more on the new stuff being well received than on old rarities being resurrected.

    Playing it, yes; opening with it, I would vote against it (because all our votes count, right? )

    I think THEY are taking this experiment too seriously (and with good reason). They're scared of becoming a "greatest hits" band, they've mentioned more than once that theory of "two bad albums and you're out", they take audience reaction to their material very seriously (and sadly sometimes not accurately), they took a very extreme aproach to the album release in order to get all the people to know the new songs, and in the last NYT article Bono said (directly or indirectly) that the real test of the album would be how people reacts to the new songs played live.

    I believe that in a Butterfly Effect thingy, that experiment should be taken really seriously...
  10. The Crystal Ballroom is probably the best song from that album. I doubt there could be a negative reaction to it, be it anywhere in the setlist.

    I don't mean a negative reaction at all. I just mean "people not knowing the song". That's the kind of reaction that the band -for what they've said- don't want to see.

    I don't think Breathe had a negative reaction to it, it just made them feel like the people were not into the song, (or into the whole album for that matter) so they dropped it along with anything that was not a single from it (and MOS). This time, they wanted to make sure people had the new songs and are expecting them to know all of them and get into them regardless of if they're singles or not.

    TCB to open the show (which I really don't think that's happening, so this talk is even more useless than usual ) would defeat the purpose of giving the album for free to everybody.
