okay, this topic might be a bit random or coming out of nowhere, but here goes. you know, I've always been proud to be a u2 fan. especially in my teens I thought I had a bit of a superior music taste than others of my generation (yes, this sounds quite arrogant

I guess you could say I was, in that regard). whoever let me, I'd gush about my favourite band, make them listen to a song or two, tell them I've met them, been to their studios, travelled to a different country to see them, own all the albums etc pp. as the years went by I realized that at least in germany (where I live) there's mostly two camps when it comes to u2... the ones who love them and the others who hate "the guy with the sunglasses" (or, additionally, their "repetitive sound" from the guy with the "stupid hats"... but yeah, most of the hate goes to bono, the "gutmensch", as they'd say spitefully).

so yeah, I've received my fair share of "oh no, not THIS band/dude" with a rant attached, more often than "oh, I love them, too. what's your favourite album?". and with that, I've come to notice that whenever someone asks me what music I like, I go a little quiet and mutter "u2", probably looking like I want to apologize right after I've said it.

and this is so wrong. I hate that I've come to react like that recently. it's not the band's fault, it's certainly not bono's fault (on the contrary, I absolutely admire him for the work he does outside the band, no matter how many people he pisses off in the process, he's so hard-working!), not the apple deal's fault either. so why is that? why am I doing this? and do any of you feel the same way?

and tell the next guy who asks again "I LIKE U2! THEY'RE AMAZING" and not give a shit

I would not say I am 'proud' as such. You be proud of your kids etc. I am not embarrassed to be a U2 fan in anyway and always love a good debate with those who generally hate on U2 for no apparent reason.

I'm still yet to meet another U2 fan. I avoid mentioning U2 as much as possible. I realised that in the UK, or at least where I've lived, there seems to be just the one camp when it comes to U2. I haven't even had to mention them and I hear people hating on them. I'd rather not have to justify my taste in music, so I leave them out of any music discussion. Perhaps this is why I've not met a U2 fan, we all shy away from mentioning them.

I am a proud (or honoured, or dignified, whatever the term) fan and I talk about U2 in my real and virtual life as much as I can. I wear t-shirts and post U2 stuff in my social networks so everyone I know, knows that I'm a fan and accepts it. I don't care what U2 haters/dislikers have to say about it, to each their own.

In fact, I'm a bit glad that U2 isn't what it used to be in terms of global fandom and following - if everyone was a fan, getting tickets for their shows would be even more of a nightmare!

I became a fan when I was 2 years old, since then I always sang U2 songs and talked about them as much as I could, but when I was around 11 years I was embarrased to be a fan, because almost nobody of my generation was fan of U2 (thats what I thought). ~~I think that has something to do with puberty~~ But now I'm a proud U2 fan and share it openly.
Some people dont like U2, I respect that. But to the ~~dumb~~ people who are saying: "U2? Oh that gay band from apple" I dont say anything, I'm like:

I get where you're coming from, since I've listened to countless rants I'm also thinking "why do I have to justify myself?" (although I DO wanna defend my band, you know? it's weird) ... I don't want to feel like I have to apologize, though. for what?! fuck it

Me: "I'm a U2 fan"

I do love seeing people with an iPhone though and knowing that they have SOI

Hi folks!

Yes, I am proud to be a fan of U2. They rescued me back to the world when I was 12/13 years old. They showed me what rock'n roll was about and I, because of U2, became beatlemaniac. The Roxy show few days ago is the ultimate testament of what U2 is about.

Thank you Bono, Edge, Larry and Adam for never giving up!
