    Overall I felt this was a great show. The energy was there, from both the band and the crowd. The audience seemed to have an intense passion, especially during the opening numbers. As mentioned by the previous posters, this is truly just a 3 star recording (I'll change it in a minute).


    PROS

    --I Fall Down was good as usual. By far one of the most underrated U2 songs.
    --I Will Follow was amazing! Is it just me, or was this song way more exciting during the Boy Tour?
    --The Electric Co. is an all-time favorite of mine, and the Yankee Doodle snippet fit well in the middle/end of the song.
    --Things to Make and Do makes a rare appearance
    --Stories For Boys great. I think it's obvious that this was a live staple during the early days.
    --Great band performance



    CONS

    --Audio quality left a little to be desired, but still a decent recording for 26 years ago.
    --Boy-Girl is atrocious. Never been a fan of this song
    --Not a big fan of Fire



    I'm feeling pants today, severe case of man-flu so I'm afraid I'm going to be really lazy and just copy Nate's post as I agree with everything he said. The only addition I'd make was I wasn't really taken with the opening song - not the song itself so much as opening with it. Seemed a bit flat. Otherwise enjoyed it.

    I'll be back tomorrow with a summary etc.

    Sound

    Not worthy of its 4 star status but as long as you keep the vulume down then it's a very worthy 3.5 so thats what i'll change it to. Turn the volume up though and the static and hiss make it an uncomfortable listen. For an audience recording of this age though it's still pretty darn good. Great crowd to.

    Performance + Points

    +As energetic as you would expect from a band that doesn't give a fuck. A band just trying to conqeur England. Great stuff.
    +Absolutely loved the intro to I Fall Down. Sounds so fresh even today.
    +We talk a lot about songs we wish to see dusted off some day and Fire is one of them that deserves a mention. Maybe not the whole song but that riff kicks serious ass.
    +I Fall Down was excellent.
    +Things To Make And Do is a playful little number.
    +I'm A Believer was a truly great snippet.

    Performance -Points

    +What a pile of crap Carry Me Home was.
    +Boy-Girl was piss poor also. God I hate that song.
    +Bongolese was on display at this show. The only lyric I could hear from Another Time, Another Place was 'Another Time, Another Place'
    +Thats about it really/

    General Summary

    Good show, good recording, good performance. Solid all round. How great is it to think that people in the audience were recording U2 that early on? Just another band passing through to most but they had fans devoted enough to come and recordthem. Would you or I think aout recording a show of some random band that we went to see? I know I wouldn't. The crowd reception and participation was great. It was heart warming to hear and feel the warmth of the British crowd to the 4 Irish boys onstage in a time when relations between the two countries still weren't great. Will I kep this show on my iPod? No, but i'll keep a few ofthe performances for my Random playlist and i'll remember the show for a long time. Next weeks show is a great one. . .

    General Jots:

    --I couldn't understand any of Carry Me Home, could you?
    --Love the I Will Follow, both times.
    --An Cat Dubh & Into the Heart was on fire (stupid clappers have no rhythm).
    --October songs sound strange to me live.
    --The Electric Co... Oh. My. God. That song sounded like they were going to destroy the world.
    --Things to Make and Do was a nice bookend for Electric Co.
    --I'm a Believer made Boy-Girl fun.

    Final Thoughts:

    I can't help but think of Bono's quote, "We had nothing but 'it'." This gig really shows. They're just four men in overdrive, not planning to stop for anything. It's cool to hear that.

    Historical note: This was the gig attended by Bruce Springsteen & Pete Townshend that would be referenced in Bruce's Intro for U2's Induction and in U2 by U2.

    I'm afraid to announce that I will be taking a two-week sabbatical from the Round Table. I just need a recharge and some different material to analyze. Gerard and Nate will take care of it when I'm gone. I'll see you later.
