Cedarwood Road was everything I had hoped it would be and the stage design was so damn awesome. Like holy shit, that thing where it's like he's walking on the street inside the screen was so cool. I also loved the whole concept thing about growing up and taking everyone back to Dublin. I just wish they had followed through more with it! I wanted to see them take me to the desert and then through the 90s. Seemed as though after Sunday Bloody Sunday they went for a greatest hits thing, which is still awesome - but I would've loved to see a FULLY conceptual show.
The Wanderer was a cool addition, but I think it sort of confused the audience. No one realized U2 was actually playing Invisible lol.
The early stuff (electric co holy shit) and even the later stuff was all performed fantastically. I loved every minute of it and can't wait to do it again tomorrow. There's nothing like pouring your heart out during Pride or Streets with 20,000 other people. So amazing.
All in all I think it's a fantastic show. I think they can go one step further with the concept thing and throw away all of the songs that don't fit the "innocence and experience" thing (moments tonight felt like the 360 tour all over again) but I also realize they're playing to a room who want to hear the hits. That being said, the first half of the show blew me away. Sunday Bloody Sunday, Wolves, Song for Someone, wow. Everything flowed so nicely and the use of the screen was phenomenal.
Also, Bullet was fuckin awesome and the way he changed the "talking" section to talk to himself as a young man was epic and really cool. That's the kind of stuff I wish the second half focused on more.
Ending with Still Haven't Found would've sounded like an awesome idea on paper to me, going along with the whole experience thing. But after all these years it felt like an odd closer. I'm glad they didn't close with The Troubles, it would've brought that massive high right down. But I dunno, something else like This is Where You Can Reach Me Now or something might be interesting.
Anyway, night all! Talk tomorrow!!!![]()
Best night ever! Again!
P.S crossing my fingers for Bad tomorrow nightI hadn't been following the set lists, so I thought for sure it was coming after Wolves. It would just make so much sense as a staple.
"That song was written about our friend _____. He witnessed etc etc and turned to a drug that plagued our city when we were young. That drug was heroine. I wrote this next song for him, 30 years ago. This song is Bad."
