Tour: Innocence and Experience tour
Songs played: 25
Audio recordings: 1
  1. I also think that like all U2 tours, by the end of this one the set will probably look totally differs than it does now. Unless they're serious about only touring this year.
  2. We are going to try. Doesn't seem like a promise to me. Then Bono's injury happened, fans elaborated a lot of wild theories about shows acoustic and electric, other fans complained that they didn't want to miss "the good night", etc. We got a compromise. But my main point is that it was never promised "2 different setlists for 2 nights".
  3. You're right about the fact that the word "promise" was never used...
Actually, there just was very little info in advance, that indeed lead to speculations.
I see that in hindsight, but I also still justify the fact that we all (or most of us) really thought there would be 2 different shows and really expected it.
Imo it's still a marketing technique from O'Seary to make people buy tickets for 2 shows instead of 1.
  4. Last time I brought this up I got jumped on like what I was saying was so wrong. But fact is even after they backed off of the 2 diff sets thing , they said the 2nd set would be varied night by night. That is also not happening. 2 songs varied is nothing. My opinion is this tour is awesome. I love the stage, and they sound brilliant. But all the talk about varied sets is bullshit. Plain and simple.

Yeah I guess that's the basic idea most of us have
    Mine as well.
  6. But could it be that it was precisely the over-the-top hype made by us about this "setlist variation" theory that led to this disappointment? I don't think the band should be blamed for this. Could be Ticketmaster's fault or Guy Oseary's fault, but we also have part of the guilt, thinking that U2 was going to play our wildest setlists this time, when history can show us wrong. True, the band toyed with us saying things like "we're considering 2 different feelings", etc. but we took that phrase and turned it into a promise set in stone that they were going to change the entire setlist night by night.
  7. I don't think it's shared guilt really.
Like I said, I still stand behind our thoughts, as all the info lead to it... Including always providing pairs of shows in each city, calling it innocence + experience.

And erhm... This is the biggest band on earth. Run by a fucking grand machine. Don't doubt that every little piece of information was well thought before published
Although we're complaining about U2.com, every statement has a strategy.

Ok, maybe wegot a bit over-excited, but isn't that normal when you're thinking about your favorite band ?

Anyway, this discussion will never gonna end

My conclusion is : great show, as always, but don't EVER listen to a statement from the band (show, tour, album...) and just believe what you hear through the music and see live. Otherwise : don't beLIEve the hype !

My opinion is even if nothing was said , multiple night residencies should have more variation than what's happening on this tour. PJ type variation? Hell no. But they should stop worrying about upsetting casual fans. They have nothing to loose. They're the biggest band in the world. Learn 60 songs and take them on the road! I'm not even asking for obscure shit! I don't care about b sides or bad songs that shouldn't be played anyway. This is how I feel about any live act, especially rock shows.
  9. The moment the released comments saying that nightly setlist variation wasn't a thing they could be able to practically implement, the conversation became a dead horse that gets beaten every night.

I really wish we as a community would stop saying that U2 "promised" us drastically different sets because it pretty much shows that you only selectively listen to what they say. So please do yourself (and the rest of us) a favor and keep up on what the band has been saying about their tour.
  10. Haha.

Well, this is the exact tour announcement :

    U2 iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE Tour 2015

The band are heading out on the road again, playing indoor arenas for the first time in a decade.

The iNNOCENCE + eXPERIENCE Tour will see U2 play 19 cities worldwide next year, with pairs of shows in each city. Special shows are being planned for Dublin for the end of next year to benefit the U2-initiated Music Generation project and details will follow once they are finalised. (Full itinerary below and on our tour page. )

“We are going to try to have a completely different feeling from night one to night two,” said Bono, “and have some fun playing with the idea of innocence and experience. More to be revealed!”

Tickets for all shows go on general sale next Monday - December 8th - but presales to paid U2.com subscribers begin tomorrow, Thursday December 4th. Presales for U2.COM SUBSCRIBERS have now ended.

Songs Of Innocence, gifted by Apple to over half a billion iTunes Music Store customers, has now been streamed 81m times and downloaded by 30m fans.

"The anticipation for a U2 tour is always extraordinary, as it should be," said Arthur Fogel, President, Global Touring and Chairman, Global Music. "Following the record-setting 360° Tour I'm amazed that they still want to be ground-breaking, this time on a more intimate scale."

So there's not much there is it...
Only that it'll be pairs of shows, intimate and trying to have a completely different feeling from night 1 to night to... So... That's 3 things, on what were you focusing ?

And ok, let's focus on what's been said : what about the Dublin shows ?
  11. Anyway, this is a waste of time, so I'm gonna say this once more and then leave it be.

  12. the band has played 41 songs on this tour thats not bad this early on.
i would relish a more diverse setlist for the second half of show.
