Don't worry guys. When Bono gets his bionic arm upgrade, we'll be able to go back to making jokes about him playing guitar without seeming really insensitive. I do agree with the general sentiment that most of the time he doesn't add much to a song, but when he shows up he really shows up.
About his guitar, I'm still not sure when he would have used it in the show...
Cedarwood Road? he's walking down the street in the middle of the screen, I don't think it would be practical to give him a guitar in there... One? which is barely 50% of the show's closer song? and I agree that it sounds better than in other tours, granted not because Bono is not playing, but still there's not something missing.
Maybe Song for Someone? Probably I would've enjoyed that.
Some other song they're not playing because of that? we'll never know (hopefully is not The Fly, though... the Elevation version was really good).
I really miss the extra guitar in Cedarwood Road, also he would play on other songs in the rotation part of the show, but I like it more when he walks!
I think the biggest miss is in the songwriting! But him on the piano could bring a new perspective!
Elevation style The Fly would be so amazing with this stage set-up. You can have Edge tearing up those riffs while Bono plays around like a mad-man on that cat-walk screen with the words zipping by. And then you can have Bono stuck to the wall at the end of the song like he did during Elevation. Tons of ways to have fun with this.
